This was one of my favorite albums when I first heard it (probably around 10 years ago now) and I had always wanted more from them.

If anyone has anything more by these guys, I'd definitely want to hear it.

Da Grassroots are a Canadian Hip Hop production team consisting of 3 members; Mr. Murray, Mr. Attic & Swift. They`ve done some work with fellow Canadians Choclair, Ghetto Concept & the Dream Warriors to name a few. Both of the tracks on this 12 inch are from their 1999 album titled "Passage Through Time", also a very iLL album, highly recommend it!!!

Ok, so G Knight was never an official part of this group? Thanks. I know he went on to change his name, not sure what to. I don't know if it was already posted in this thread but they also had a single, I think in 1995, "Drama" b/w "Living Underwater", that was even better than their LP, imo.
Also, the track "Black Dove" off the album is incredible.

Da Grassroots - Passage Through Time [Album Sampler Tape]...

Post by HeRBaN LyRiX »

YeS~YeS y`all, back again with some more of that exclusive shit! I am almost certain that this joint hasn`t been posted up on the `net yet, so please allow me to do the honors of sharing it with y`all! What I have for your listening pleasure is Da Grassroots` "Passage Through Time" Album Sampler Tape. It was released in 1999 as promo for their album, mainly record stores, college Hip Hop radio show hosts & DJ`s got these. There were also a few lucky kats like myself that were fortunate enough to get their hands on `em, the Haitian Sensation hooked me up with two copies back in the day so ya know I gotta BiG him uP!!!

Now let`s get to the tape shall we, it`s hosted by The World Famous Almighty Elite Squad. What ya get to hear is 6 snippets of tracks off Da Grassroots "Passage Through Time" album along with an intro, a few interludes & an outro. It`s just over 15 minutes in length & the program repeats on both sides, so Side A is the exact same as B. The Intro is a lil` humorous -- it`s got this one kat talkin` with some friends, they`re about to smoke a joint so the one dude asks the other if he`s got any music with him. The dude replies, "Ummmm....yeah, yeah. Oh actually I`ve only got this one tape, you guys don`t wanna hear it man. It`s no good..." Dude just goes on DiSS`n Da Grassroots talkin` all kinds of ish, it`s kind of funny. All the snippets are DoPe & definitely make ya wanna hear the full album (I`ll be postin` it up later on, don`t you worry). When you DL this joint you get the individual/split tracks as well as the entire tape in one mp3, so enjoy another HeRBaN LyRiX exclusive tape rip...

I believe Delphi Oracle was Frankenstien's group not a rapper.

Amazing thread thread though, gotta be more names and albums and shit though...

Crooks, then KDB and solo shit, that crew till Tribesmen in 2000 I guess...

Nextra, and all those groups, Isolated Showers, Supreme Being Unit, etc...

Wasun aka Genetik, I would appreciate some shit from him I've heard his more recent EP which was inspiring as well as a demo with him and Nextra in 94ish?

Applied Science

Swollen Members/Moka Only all their crews.

Ill try and post some shit later.

This is actually a mixtape (one long mp3 file unfortunately) that I had downloaded back in 2006 from the now dead Chicken Scratch Addict blog. It`s an hour & 24 minutes in length, give it a listen & savor the Maple flava....LoL

Thanks for that one and thanks to Nouferz.

Just had to mention, I could never mess with "swollen Members", pause, for one, their name, lol. And secondly i can't stand that rapper who looks like a body double for the Bad News Bears meets the 90s. And i can overlook how someone looks and dresses, ie danny brown, but i can't stand his rappin either.
But i do like quite a few of their beats tho.

Verge, the first three Swollen albums are mad dope, some amazing beats by Evidence on them. Balance - Bad Dreams - Monsters in the Closet, give them a listen, i'm pretty sure you're gonna find some real gems in there.

I heard you man, I don`t really like all of their ish but a lot of their earlier stuff is pretty good. They don`t really disappoint in the beat department that`s for sure...

Thanks Nooferz & Herban Lyrix, certified bomb right here.

For the record, a few months ago a compilation of Swollen Members unreleased material was launched, entitled "1997". Not bad, not special either. Web only i think, no research done.

Every time i watch an ex-OK dude turn into a pathetic clown i can't help asking myself whether he always used to be a well covered yet big time fuckin poser. Including major names of the rap game. But that's another story.

Dust`N off some ol` Canadian Hip Hop for y`all today from the "Pimp Of The Microphone" himself, Mr. HDV. This is a promo 12 inch that was released back in 1990, released thru ISBA Music Entertainment Inc.. DJ X produced "Secret [Advanced Rmx]" as well as "Secret [The Power Move Mix]" & it`s instrumental. You may recognize some of his work from Michie Mee`s debut album, he produced "You`re Feisty". Maximum 60 & Ron Nelson handled the production for "Secret [Original Mix]". All in all it`s a decent listen, go `head & check it out for ya`self...
