shot in the dark... (name that tune?)

Post by wallysnaps »

hey ppl. first post here... there's been a song (an independent joint circa 96/97) that drives me nuts once in a while trying to think of the name of it.

the chorus goes "i got the whole world/in my hands/i wanna live lovely with a beautiful wife/and some........" that's all i can remember.and the beat was i really happy sounding beat with some nice strings to it. dude had somewhat of a higher pitched, kinda raspy voice as well.

i've exhausted every other avenue trying to figure this out. i get a real need to hear it now and then.

any help would be good. or just call me a noob.

wallysnaps, I suggest you check at least most of the records on that label.
Mass Vinyl. Almost every record is fuckin dope.
http://www.discogs.com/label/Mass+Vinyl+Recordings

Start off with these three:
MV 1596 Hi-Tech (2) Book Of Life (12") 1996
MV 1597 Various Collectors Edition Vol. 1 (12") 1996
MV 111094 Parallax (9) Don't Mean Jak / Bleeding Hate (12") 1994

If you need help finding them, let me know.
DJ Mike Nice says he found the lost Hi Tech album that never dropped or
leaked, so keep an eye out for that, too.

I have a bunch of Mass Vinyl records and plan on ripping them
real soon. I'm only missing I think two or three out of their catalog and
they weren't my favorite ones anyway, though I still wish I
had their complete discography. I was two records away, years ago.
I'll let it be known when I post these. It will be full rips, all near mint, all
tagged and just love love.

I don't remember if this was on the Royal Flush album, but you should
give that album a listen anyways.

I'm usually good with Id'ing any Stretch n Bobbito tape joints, but I
honestly don't remember hearing this one ever. That voice and flow sound
mad familiar to me, though.
Do you have the show this came from? Or an mp3 of this song?
Greatly appreciated. I'll give it a couple of more listens over the next few
days and see if I can remember.

I resisted from requesting this originally because a) the song may have been total garbage for all I know b) I remember very little about it that I can describe c) I don't think it's from the T.R.O.Y. era at all and is much more likely to be from the last ten years, perhaps even the more recent half of the last decade (but it could just as easily be somewhat recent material from an older artist).

The only reason I ask is because I had such good results in this thread the first time I couldn't identify a track and because this song keeps nagging at me for no reason whatsoever.

Okay here it goes...

All I really can guess at / think I remember is that it's a solo artist, three verses, post 2000 (that all could be totally wrong though) and that it definitely samples Robert De Niro's quote in Taxi Driver:

"...I go all over...the Bronx...Brooklyn...Harlem...I don't care..."

I know the Juggaknots use that Taxi Driver sample on Loosifa and I
know someone else 'obscure' used it in the 90's also.
But there was one from this decade that I do remember also using that.
Damn... I can't remember.
I think I only heard it once or twice.
Sorry.

Speaking of non T.R.O.Y. era material, I also have a request that's been
bothering me for awhile.

In between 2001-2004, either CM Fam or Underground Railroad played this
song and I asked about it at Fat Beats the next day, but nobody knew what
I was talking about.

All I remember about it at this point is this:
It sampled Common's "had to be something for me to write this..", for the hook.
And I'm pretty sure that the subject matter involved a long distance
relationship.

Anybody?
