The Firm album - How It Should've Been

Post by djfilthyrich »

Pradadon started a thread in the My Two Cents forum about albums that were huge disappointments, and The Firm album was one of them. We thought it deserved it's own thread, so here it is. He put together a compilation of the tracks he thought would've made the album, and it sounds dope.

"For some reason Firm Biz came on the radio (there is an old school channel here in NYC that plays such random shit) the day I made that thread and it just reminded me how disappointing that album was to me. Then I remembered that I had Desperado with Nas with no drops, and that Step had the Firm Biz remix dirty."
pradadon wrote:I'm sure we have all discussed this, but as a huge Nas and Az fan (and Mega, even Nature) I was never more let down in the history of hip hop more than this. That Boot Camp- For The People was right there with this.
Of course this Firm album had a couple of joints, but fuck, it could have been an all time classic and they fucked it up real good. First off, needed Mega on there. But even with Nature, there were joints like ('Time' & 'Everyday Thing') that could have made the album much iller. Also not having the Nas verse on Desperados was a shame. The Firm Biz Remix should have been on there and I think Nas and Az should have had a couple of solo joints. They just dropped the ball so badly on what could have been a classic.

Here's Pradadon's re-imagining of the album. He removed the skits and wack tracks, and added some songs that were left off the album.

yo dj filthy rich
2 tracks out there that i think would go well wit this and they are both on Clue Tapes...

the first one is a freestyle intro featuring Nas & nature rhyming over a dope beat that i cant remember right now but the tape is from '97
the second one is a track that the firm is rhyming over mary j's be happy remix instru. welcoming mary j to the firm.
they are both on Clue tapes around '96 & '97...i think i have both but i gottta dig them up...but they are out there and available!!

and personally i thought the album was dope orig. and i loved the concept cause u will never have that collection of stars in a group again, being that we never saw the commission take place. the super group that woulda consisted of Biggie, Cease, Jigga & Charli!

but i cant wait ti hear ur version cause on it look incredible so far!!

and i was dissapointed wit the Boot camp Clik album as well, they was riding high in '93-96 and for them to drop that BS was dissapointing.
the best track i loved was Night Riders wit Aaliyah...but not the orig. version, the 9th wonder one LOL!!!

so maybe ur next 2 challenges could b creating a Commission album or redo the Boot camp Clik album...or a better yet creating a proper Children Of The Corn album!

I'm probably going to leave freestyles out of my version, but feel free to upload them in this thread for everybody to take a listen. I wouldn't mind hearing them myself.

I have it somewhere on a bootleg. I'm going to leave it off my version cuz it was a freestyle, but drop it in the thread if you have it handy.

The Firm-Affirmative Action Vinyl Reanimators Remix
The Firm-Affirmative Action (The Firm Remix) , CDQ, this remix is different, official and doesn't use the juice crew beat, but another very dope beat (be sure to check)

yo dj filthy rich,

2 more tracks came to mind
the AZ Doe Or Die vinyl Reanimators Rmx would go perfect on this, the beat is slow and mafioso esque!!

another track is a Nas and 1 or 2 other members of the Firm, its a unreleased track but its Nas and them rhyming about having a picnic in Queens, the beat is real lively i think it came out in '96-98...but the topic is mostly BBqing in queens with the people out and having a great time. i cant remember the name...

i love this stuff man, its cool to put the pieces together and create something when heads come together.
reminds me & others putting that stretch & bob thread together and completing it!!

Although I gotta say, Desperados doesn't hold up as well without Canibus on there.

Thanks bro! I know that vinyl reanimators rmx will b a great choice!
now on that Nas track its not Queens Day, remember the track im talking about was not released...the name of the record is called Cookouts wit nature on it!!

that track would b great to add trust me!!

another hidden gem to add to this is a track that is from '92 - '93 underground unreleased with Nas & Cormega called 40th Side Of Things!!
again trust me this track will fit right in, the beat matches the flow of this album. u might gotta do some editing in the beginning cause of talking, but it will work!

and u said u needed more Mega, joints come to mind...Killaz Theme wit Mobb Deep, Angel Dust ft. Havoc, Mega Gonna Hold His own ft. Carl Thomas, Testament...

There's one more track that I'd like to track down....it was an early Firm unreleased track called Fist Full Of Dollaz which features Nature and Dre. I found one mp3 of it online, but hoping somebody has this bootleg vinyl and can rip the .WAV file for us (I also wouldn't mind a rip of 4 N Tha Morning from this bootleg either so we can compare it to the version you found on the Dr Dre compilation. Note that Eminem is incorrectly listed as being featured on the track...can't trust a bootlegger lol).
I have the mp3 for the Fist Full Of Dollaz youtube video below....it's also known as Dr Dre "Talkin Big Shit". Just hoping we can get a better rip from this bootleg:

Here you go : http://www8.zippyshare.com/v/xjEHgPsZ/file.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
This is the original leak in 192, I decided to upload the whole album (including Fist Full of Dollaz)
Dr_Dre-Exclusive_(Unreleased)-2001-ksi
01 0:19 Intro
02 3:29 Fist Full Of Dollas ft. Dr Dre, Nature
03 3:52 Blueberries ft. Snoop Dogg, Sam Sneed
04 3:35 Lady Herion ft. Sam Sneed, J. Flexx
05 4:45 Sooner You Give ft. E.S.P.
06 4:53 Nothin To It ft. Serenade
07 0:06 Nas Interlude
08 3:16 4 In Tha Mornin ft. Nature, R.C.
09 4:23 Street Dreams ft. Nas, Nature, Drauma
10 3:29 Guilty As Sin ft. Sharief, Drauma, Kurupt
11 5:37 Let The Maddness Begin ft. R.C., Drauma, Jhery
12 0:06 Hands On Intro
13 3:25 Experience ft. Hands On
14 4:59 Get It On ft. Hands On
15 4:32 In Da Zone ft. Sam Sneed, J. Flexx, Drauma
16 0:54 Outro

Here's that "Mary J & Da Firm" Clue Freestyle with a then grossly overweight Steve Stoute sounding like Big Pun on the intro.

Yo, can anyone ID the sneakers Nas has on at the end of the Firm Promo vid posted earlier? Are they just AF1s?

Maybe more of a Noreaga song but it would still fit well

And this was the only mafioso song from Fox' second album - also with Noreaga incidentally, but only on the hook

Yeah I was trying to find a version of this track with no DJ/tags, but I don't think one exists.
I chose not to include the Bloody Money 2 track because it has a middle eastern beat instead of a mafioso vibe.

@Brandan i left off 'How Ya Livin' because the vibe sounded too happy. Really wish I had that acapella though or a remix to it.

@Green Lantern...thanks for the loosies...I think that 320 version of Every Day Thing is the best quality version we have so far

I found this Nature compilation....even though it's available on official avenues like iTunes, the quality of these tracks are pretty poor. I'd be pretty pissed if I paid for this CD thinking it would have CDQ tracks, and heard this mixtape quality stuff.
The bright spot though is that it has a better quality version of Magic & Bird (and it's at regular speed).

magic n bird - you might have found the best version though - it's pitched a little bit too slow though, like the J-Love I did include. (drops) The other one is of this: http://dabootlegshop.blogspot.co.at/200 ... ature.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (better than white label, same speed and not full - verses are all there) Last one is the one you got of youtube - whitelabel rip. Yeah, the mixes on the KSI are a bit too sharp in my opinion. The Firm Biz RMX I provided might be better too. You could regulate the pitch with goldwave though.
