Obscure Roc Marcy 12" 1997(solved)(FULL RIP of Kuku...

  to mathematik.

Okay so here's what it is- For almost a year now, I've been requesting this track and feeling foolish by the description I had to give-
Vergill Tibbz wrote:Here's a joint that you probably remember because it was one that Bobbito played every week for over a month in maybe 96 or 97. It even had a remix that they played. Get ready for one of the dumbest descriptions for a song you've ever heard. I know cats think I'm an idiot for requesting this in the past, but if you heard it you'll know what I'm talking about-
Black Prophet - Extra Mile- Not sure if that's the artist name or track title, but dude calls himself the Black Prophet in it and before the hook, he says "cause I go the extra mile." The hook itself is sampled from an old song that goes,"Yah,yah,yaaah",..."yah,yah,ya-yaah". Random lyrics I remember from it-"my son, keep ya head up like a giraffe", "I be catching the holy ghost over and over","I'm broader than Broadway in broad daylight","cause I go the extra mile".
So, the plot thickened as I found an old cd that I had recorded a bunch of tracks that I liked from Bobbito shows on. It had the remix to said track, but not the og-
Verge wrote: Well, I found the remix, so now maybe someone will be able to point me towards the original mix. Don't get me wrong, this remix is ill.
I'm gonna post in the Song IDs and Weekly Request-

So, a new poster named mathematik, just sent me a PM with almost the entire og cut.

I put on divshare real quick for easier access-
<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/sh ... on=8,0,0,0" width="335" height="28" id="divplaylist"><param name="movie" value="http://www.divshare.com/flash/playlist?myId=7666845-e2a" /><embed src="http://www.divshare.com/flash/playlist?myId=7666845-e2a" width="335" height="28" name="divplaylist" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashpl ... d></object>

So now, 2 things left-
01) Get the entire cut.
02) Find out who it is.

mathematik mentioned that people have commented that it mey be Roc Marcy. At first I thought no way. But now I'm not so sure. It could be.
Anybody?

1. same rhyme pattern
2. repping long island "suffolk to nassau"
3. 2nd mc calls him "roc"

well anyway i sent roc marcy a message so hopefully tomorrow we will have the name of the song>>most likely this was a early un demo!

^Yeah, man. The more I listen, the more I'm thinking that's possible.
I still say at least the og version had to have a vinyl out.
A full track ID should be right around the corner, hopefully.

Yeah, I'd be really surprised if this isn't Marciano given the other emcee calls him Roc. Big fan of his shit.

The original is so dope, I hope you can find a full version of it. It almost feels like a freestyle session though...

Yeah, it's sounding more and more like a younger Roc to me now.
Damn, he kills that shit.
I'm wondering if maybe they went by a different name back then or something, maybe?

If you ask me, that IS definitely Roc, go back and listen to the UN album and check the flow.

Roc Marcy, no doubt
Only competitor could have been Grand the Viz, regarding to the voice, but the flow doesnt lie.

Roc Marciano can get so raw on the mic. A high quality version of the OG cut needs to be unearthed pronto.

This is great. I didn't even know that the first track Verge posted a while back was the remix.

If it does I hope it's back to form from his UN days. Some of his newer shit has been wack, though the track Snow is fire (or ice, i guess.)

He completely obliterates tracks like Ain't No Thang and Cake (off PeteStrumentals).

Man, my myspace account has been fucked up for like 6 months now. It says it's been 'phished' and to change password. I've tried over and over.
Anyway, all my beats were taken down and I can't post new ones. I can't send or receive messages. I can't see or approve my friend requests.

Anyone can help, please do.

I got at Bobbito about these tracks, even sent him the mp3s on divshare links, and this was his response-
my bad, but don't have time to peep these for you online, no doubt get a ton of these questions every week. reminds me that we should've always given our listeners the track listings at the top of the hour, but we were always having too much fun to be that organized! peace
I'm not mad at 'em, but damn, it would have taken 30 seconds.
He was always really behind on the new technology tip, too, so he probably didn't realize how easy it would have been.
I can't be mad anyway, all he did for Hip Hop and activist stuff.

The search continues.
Can someone with a myspace try to get at The UN about these?

Why don't you PM BlingRhames about this? He's Marco Polo's manager and I know Marco has worked (and is probably still in touch) with Roc, so he may be able to verify.

EDIT: Just posted a link to the MP3 on Facebook for Marco so I'll let you know if he gets back to me first.

Word, nice!
Okay, so the fact that it's Roc is now confirmed. Dope.

Now... To find out if it was a demo or if it was on vinyl.
You usually don't get a remix for a demo, nahmean?
I bet this is on vinyl, at least the og.
Maybe he went by a different name back then. Or maybe a group.

I would venture out and say that this was a group of him and a producer and they went by a name we may or may not have heard.
:sherlock:

I just sent Bobbito another Facebook message telling him it would take a few seconds to check the link. I said it nicely and apologized for bothering him and shit. I hate to seem like a stalking groupie or some shit.
I would ask Stretch, but he usually wasn't there when Bob got to play shit like this.

No prob at all. If you can't get any answers from Bobbito, I'll forward Marco your reply above and maybe he can send it to Roc.
