MM all day every day.
The singles off Enta Da Stage are classic but I always thought the album itself is a bit overrated. Rarely listen to it all the way through.
Who Got The Props, How Many MCs, Buck Em Down & I Gotcha Opin is a pretty hard to beat in terms of singles released off an album though. Maybe only 36 Chambers and Illmatic can compete.

i think it was in the j-zone article recently where he said he didn't love the beats on MM. i pretty much agree. great album. no question but it's too rhodes based and , after a while, a lot of it sounds the same. MM was the first tribe album that kinda set the pace for their new UMMAH sound which , imo, sucked dick.
i'd probably still take it over ETS though...maybe. close call.

I don't know about the vinyl, but I know the tape didn't have "Act Like U Want It", but the CD did.DJMIKENICE wrote:anybody have a link for eneter the stage

Too tough a choice. Not voting yet. Siding with ETS right now.

it's that fender rhodes based beats tend to all sound the same. like a two note progression. some shawn j. period type shit. that shit always bored the shit out of me. MM is the beginning of that, and in that, it's not even remotely as bad as the shit that followed. but it was the birth of that production style that jay dee (and other "jazzy" producers) later ran with.Thun wrote:There's a lot of ridiculous talk about Midnight marauders in here.
It's too Fender Rhodes based. Oh, ok. No doubt. Everytime I listen to an album i take out my Fender Rhodes geiger counter and if it goes over the Surgeon General's prescribed levels I just put on Enta Da Stage. Yeah.
Seriously, just stop...Blockhead wrote:it's that fender rhodes based beats tend to all sound the same. like a two note progression. some shawn j. period type shit. that shit always bored the shit out of me. This made me scratch my head because I swear I remember that track on my tape (chorus is just memorable like that).Verge wrote:I don't know about the vinyl, but I know the tape didn't have "Act Like U Want It", but the CD did.DJMIKENICE wrote:anybody have a link for eneter the stage

Just checked and it is on the tape. It's listed as "Son Get Wrec" in the liners, but I guess they fucked up.
"Son Get Wrec" ain't on there though.
Voted MM, but like someone else was saying, nothing's fucking with the singles on ETS. If "I Got Cha Opin (Remix)" was on there, I might've went with it.

I always much prefered the original version of 'I Got Cha Opin' to the remix. It's just muddier and more funky, and obviously the Barry White break on the remix had already got mad play (not the least by Big Daddy Kane's 'Brotherman Brotherman').
I've never understood why so many people liked the remix. And I'm sure Buckshot said something about it being the crossover remix in Brian Coleman's Rakim Told Me book (or it may have been his Check The Technique book).

I liked Buck's smoothed out flow and I don't think I could ever get tired of that sample. Plus that song was unavoidable for a little while, probably had something to do with it too.Mark 563 wrote:Really?MD wrote:Voted MM, but like someone else was saying, nothing's fucking with the singles on ETS. Thinking on it now, best two tracks on ETS for me are probably "Nigguz Talk Shit" and "Shit Iz Real."
