- SIDE B:
01. "Mind Your Business (Original Mix)"
02. "Where Is Puba?"
03. "Probable Cause (Original Mix)"
04. ג€œLove Vs. Hateג€ [Alternate Version] +

Produced by Brand Nubian
* Produced by Pete Rock
+ Produced by Lord Finesse
This time, OLU has gotten down with the legendary Grand Puba
Maxwell to dust off some unreleased Brand Nubian flavor!!!

As I said last time, One Leg Up has quite a few surprises with this new
series, and we are proud to unearth seven Brand Nubian rarities; all done
before and in between the classic LPs of ג€œOne For Allג€, ג€œReel To Reelג€ and
ג€œFoundationג€. Of course, as usual, there is some serious hip-hop history
behind these tracksג€¦.

ג€œHow Ya Livinג€™ג€ is a previously unheard of demo recorded prior to ג€œOne For
Allג€ and it is produced by none other than, the chocolate boy wonder, Pete
Rock!
The vintage track comes complete with the Soul Brother #1's
trademark cuts as well. ג€œI Ainג€™t Goinג€™ Out Like Thatג€ is an uptempo early
Nubian joint as well. On this track you hear Puba taking parting shots at
Strong City Records and declaring that both his Masters of Ceremony days
and style is over! ג€œThe Devilג€ is a conscious record, that was scrapped
prior to ג€œOne For Allג€, but serious Grand Puba fans will undoubtedly
recognize that the hook and song concept was later revisited for the track
ג€œSoul Controllerג€ on Pubaג€™s debut LP, ג€œReel To Reelג€. ג€œMind Your
Businessג€, as you might recall, was a b-side only track released during
ג€œReel To Reelג€. This original version sports a Hall and Oates sample that
could not be cleared, prompting Dante Ross / Stimulated Dummies to
remix the song for the 12ג€. Fortunately in 2009, the version that Grand
Puba preferred is finally available to collectors. ג€œWhere is Puba?ג€ is
somewhat of an early version of ג€œCheck It Outג€. The vocalist that appears
on this track was an artist who Puba was recording with before Mary J.
Blige. The original version of ג€œProbable Causeג€ features a different beat
then the one that made the final version of ג€œFoundationג€. As you might
recall, the released version used the Grover Washington Jr. ג€œKnuckleheadג€
sample (best known on K-Soloג€™s ג€œFugitiveג€). This version is a LOT better in
my opinion and I have no idea why they changed it? Last but not least, the
ג€œLove vs. Hateג€ alternate version treats us to a completely different Sadat
X vocal performance
and still maintains to be a favorite from the
ג€œFoundationג€ project. Oh yeah, this EP is quite heavy! One Leg Up has
returned from an extended absence, but is fast to make up for it with
VINTAGE Brand Nubianג€¦.Keep your continued attention on our series; we
are just warming up and we WILL end this series with our usual bang tooג€¦
Well, this one sounds better than the Pete n CL one, IMO.
But, I dunno man. I really can't afford it right now.
I would hate to miss out on the "bonus" record at the end of this series, though.

The og of "Probable Cause is :ohsh:
And "How Ya Livin'" and "Mind Your Business" are the other two that are
standouts, from the snippets, to me.

Thoughts...

Everything sounds good except for "Where Is Puba?". That shit is trash. The Pete Rock one sounds like his production on "All Souled Out".

Yeah, "Probable Cause (Original Mix)" is my joint here! Not worth $80 for the one track though...

Just remembered that my friend had a promo copy of "Foundation" back in the day that had all kinds of farm animal noises all over it (I guess to mark it as a promo if it got leaked). Does anybody have that shit? If so, upload it. It was fucking hilarious. I remember "Don't Let It Go to Your Head" beginning with a cow mooing.

Foundation had the Return on it, sure heat, but too many wack tracks. Writing and emceeing is dope, sure, but the beats are way too different, some are crossovers, to make a coherent and solid LP !!! Dont let it go to your head sucks, thats said.

Haj "4XL" from One Leg Up just announced that OLU-LTD2 is gonna be Nasty NaS - Queensbridge Origins [1991 - 1993] and will be transferred from the original studio DATs (some of which we'll recognize and some we won't). No tracklisting (yet).

Took him awhile to sell out on those Pete Rocks and so far, this Brand Nubian one must not be doing well, either.
Times are too hard to be trying to sell $80 records.
That said, my broke ass has copped both of these so far, so I won't be missing this Nas record.
I'm still salty about that Ill Funk Freaker record.

I had a dub of ''Prince Among Thieves"' like that, I thought it was some sort of Prince Paul humor.

I remember the least verse of 'more than u know'was missing too; I already had a dub of the song with that verse and thought it was rare until the verse showed up again on the final version of the album.

I thought Foundation was great...

Last I heard he has sold over 140 from early Sat so I do not think he has an issue with selling these and yeah I also bought all of them from the first series also and am locked in now for that Nas record. I look at these prices for the records and think about comic, baseball and sneaker heads who spend crazy amounts on that stuff also no differance to me. People collect vinyl and I am one of them. Does it bother me that it will end up on MP3 not at all like my man above says everything ends up on MP3 and I am not some salty old dude that gets bent out of shape because your not buying it on vinyl as I could care less what other people do with there money.

No prob, enjoy.
Yeah, I was surprised when it arrived today.

I can say this is mostly all good.
But the audio quality on like 4 or 5 of them sound like they're straight from
cassette. :fail:

But my favorites, so far, are in decent to good quality.
"Probable Cause"(og mix), "Mind Your Business"(og mix).
"How Ya Livin" is the other one I really dig here, but the quality is meh..
