What are some lesser-known mafioso rap records?

Post by pukaface »

For such a well-profiled genre as mafioso rap, there are surprisingly few albums that 'definitely' belong in the genre.
So I was wondering what some lesser-known artists, songs, albums were from the genre of mafioso rap?
I know about IWW, Doe Or Die, Cuban Linx, the KGR stuff, CNN, The Firm, Reasonable Doubt, and well-known albums of that caliber, but I was looking for recommendations of lesser-known shits...

There really are not that many others. It was a short lived genre, mainly done by East Cost MC's from 95-97.. You could throw Fat Joe's - Jealous One's Envy into that list, and even Mobb's Hell on Earth and Gza's Liquid Swords, but those are more based on just some of the subject matter.

Royal Flush' first album comes to mind, as well as Big's LAD.. I don't think the genre had much of a lasting impact, not enough to garner lesser known copy cats.

It was what it was and I loved most of it, but I'm glad it did not get pushed too much, as the a bunch of garbage Mafia songs floating around would have been a disaster.

The De La/Tribe/Roots summer of 96 basically deaded that whole shit. Then you had 10 million guys trying to sound like that anti/mafia shit, so it ended up backfiring.. lol

Don't know if this is significantly lesser known, but Young Bleed's "My Balls and My Word" explored a lot of uncharted territory within the mafioso subgenre. Great record.
Check out my FREE album featuring MAC LETHAL, ALASKA from HANGAR 18, HOMEBOY SANDMAN and J57 of the BROWN BAG ALL STARS -

I almost posted this but I dunno, even though there are obvious similarities in beats etcI never really got that mafioso vibe from Smoothe, much more street hustlers anthems
