Favourite 90s mixtape DJ?

whereas best producer/MC/Wu Tang solo LP etc have been done to death I havent really seen this debated much on here.
Im talking DJs that made their name through tapes rather than radio DJs like Pete Rock or Red Alert or producers like Premier or Spinna.
Names that immediately spring to mind:

Doo Wop
Evil Dee (he was known prior to Black Moon right?)
Tony Touch
Ron G
Kid Capri
S&S
Screw
Rectangle
Dirty Harry
Clue
Silva Sirfa

add on/debate/fight/ignore etc

Im sure there was a lot of DJs that were big regionally that I havent heard.

I used to dig Double R mixtapes. I don't know if he was local or what, though.
Never liked those RnB/hip hop mixtape dj's.
Them shits were annoying.

Well, I see two different kind of DJ's who made mixtapes back in they days. There were ones who actually DJ'd (ie. mixed, scratched, etc;) and those who just had exclusives and drops.

For exclusives, it was hard to beat Clue. He used to come with the heat, especially freestyles.

Tony Touch and Camillo were def two of my favorites who actually worked tracks and stuff. Doo Wop was real dope too. Ron G was dope.

But the king of the mixtapes will always be Kid Capri.

I used to love the Rectangle tapes as they were done (I assume) on a 4-track so there was always lots going on with cutting/blends/acapellas etc.
also, for the second half of the 90s West Coast stuff didnt get alot of attention in the UK so his tapes always had something other than the usual Biggie/Nas/Wu/Bootcamp etc.

Overall I'd probably go with Doo Wop, mainly for the Bounce Squad freestyles on his intros.

did Riz drop many mixtapes? I've only really seen radio mixes and of course the Live From Brooklyn breaks mixes.

Would definitely be interested in hearing anything he did.
I've got a tape of him on a Dutch radio station that Im gonna upload soon.

Yeah, Riz definitely dropped a bunch of mixtapes back in the day.
I know I had at least one, don't remember much about it.
Maybe someone still got some.

DJ Riz' In The Mix tape was the bomb! Nice track selection (I guess that's where I first heard the Foul Play/Heltah Skeltah joint), some exclusive freestyles and superior mixing skills make this one of my all-time fave mixtapes.

By the way, Avee mixes were also nice, Cash Money was one of the best mixtape DJs, Eclipse's tapes were good, too, but Tony Touch was unbeatable in the mid-90s!

Never listened to Clue tapes. I know some of his mixtape exclusives but always thought most of it was throwaway shit by famed artists.

Yeah, In the Mix is what one I remember was called. "Dj Riz is in the mix" was the drop. Started out with DITC Day One.

The cover was him in like a Porno shop or something. lol

Tony Touch is my favorite from that era. His tapes were not just the new exclusive stuff, he had a good ear for dope Hip Hop. I never found many tracks I didn't like on his tapes. Plus he would actually use his skills to leave his own mark on the music.

Whenever I want to get the 90's hip hop feel I put on a Tony Touch tape.

I still check out his tapes but they are not as good as they used to be.

Forgot about DJ Juice. Only got a couple of his mixes but he always came with some good blends which is something I'm definitely into.

I should give the UK DJs a mention aswell like Semtex, MK, Marvin and Kuku.

Of all the 90's mixtapes I've listened to my favorites are always anything by Marcus B or Dj Jazzy Jeff. Marcus B was a member of the 1200 Hobos and his tapes always remind me of trip hop, but without all of the faggotry attached. He used movie samples and dark hip hop to create an overall mood. Unfortunately his stuff has become sort of difficult to come by, although http://skillzstillmatter.blogspot.com recently uploaded a real quality rip of my favorite of his tapes:

On the other hand, Jazzy Jeffs mixes are far more bombastic and full of great energy. Unfortunately the only ones I have that where actually recorded in the 90's are The Vibe I'm On, which is great and some Roots promomix.

my personal favourite was DJ Juice....i always loved blends, and he was one of the better ones to do it (shout out to Ron G)....plus his 4-tracked 'vocal-sample' intros were dope....he claims he was the first one to do them. my favorite 90's mixtape is actually one that he did (Tape #23). i'm gonna try and find it next time i visit my parents....i think it's probably stored somewhere in their garage.
i was actually pretty honored when he told me over myspace that he wanted to work with me.....i guess he really liked my blends. too bad i couldn't do it though, since he wanted to do a Video-mix, and i don't have video-mixing software.

Other favs were Doo Wop, and Spinbad. Selecta Bam Bam was good for reggae-hip hop blends.

Tony Touch's 50 Mc's mixtape trilogy was groundbreaking.

For scratch/turntablism, i liked Q-Bert/Skratch Piklz, X-Men, Babu

Word. I bought that on cassette AND I think triple vinyl when it
dropped. Discogs says it was double vinyl, but maybe that's a bootleg.
