Nah, I remember being pissed about a very small difference between the
two. It's something real minute. I haven't re-listened yet but I think on the
demo, right after one of his verses he says "bitch" and that might be the only
difference. I know that sounds stupid but I'm pretty sure about it and I
thought it was funny how he said it so that's why I noticed it wasn't on the
record.

Stretch Armstrong Show featuring Bobbito the Barber - 2nd November 1995 [Part One]

Here's a show that aint on the list either, a rip from the collection, it's one of the old Fat Beats cassettes with the cover and the date written on it, I picked it up at Footwork. The Finesse beat that opens Side B is the instrumental of Lets Get It On by MG, Steinski also used the beat on his Nothing to Fear alblum...Did anyone else use this beat or did Finesse ever rhyme over it anywhere else? The other Finesse beat that samples Joe Tex - Papa Was Too, is SAVAGE !! Redmans sister [?] gets some shine on a track that appeared on a booty 12" a time ago too, tracks called I Get Down Like That if I recall correctly. Can anyone help out with the missin cuts? Ta' in advance.

NB. This tape is also KRS' first session up at 89Tec9...

Sadly I dont have the other volume to this but I'll get to grips with more S&B before long

This was another great show. I don't believe Finesse used the LGIO beat for anything commercial; I imagine it was too obvious and woulda cost him a grip to use.

Part Two of this show would include more Supernat rhyming over SP1200 beats by Djinji Brown, where he asks Stretch & Bob to call out subject matter for him to rhyme about. Kevin Beacham posted it here in the Freestyles Demos Rarities.

I listened to it again and at the end of the show Bob & Sear do some of their trademark tag team nonserious freestyling. At one pt Bob raps about having "sweet candy and yams next Thursday, Thanksgiving" and then announces that they were not on the air the following week.

Also, I have this nagging memory. In the last exchange of the night, Bob & Sear talk about coming up w/new nicknames for everyone incl. Stretch. I seem to recall that the next time they were on the air, Bob announced their split. It was like, whaaaa...?? They seemed so happy together! (pause) They were even talking about new nicknames for each other!

.....This is ridiculoid; we gotta get Stretch or Bobbito's input soon.

aleph wrote:This I am sure of: Bobbito and Stretch would not have preempted the KCR gig for the Hot show. I honestly donג€™t remember the Hot show moving to Thursdays. If it was, I would have remembered if I made it a point to be around the house Thursday nights to tape both shows, so I highly doubt that it was one after the other.

The other circumstancial evidence I have is that the next show on my tape after the RZA/ODB show was not a KCR show but Halftime which was on Wednesday nites. They played selections from the Bobby Digital record so it had to have been that same timeframe.
So they had the Sunday night show which aired from 12-2am on Hot 97. What was that called??? They also had this show called "The B-Side" which was on a weekday during prime time hours which I assume is sometime between 8 - 10pm? I have this 25 minute recording of A Tribe Called Quest and Consequence on The B-Side with Stretch & Bobbito on Hot 97. At the end they even say that this b-side show is the very first one and to check for them some other time on a weekday and to catch them every Sunday night from midnight to 2am.

A Tribe Called Quest and Consequence on Stretch & Bobbito's first ever Sunday night B-Side Radio Show from July 1996 on NYC's Hot 97. It's 25 minutes long, really dope, funny and the freestyle sessions are niiice!! Enjoy... http://www.mediafire.com/?2mnynuqmniz (45 mb / 256 kbps)

Remember though, this was the first B-Side Show so it was probably on some random weekday night. Well, that's how it seemed to be with the way they were talking. They didn't know when they would be doing it again, but did say "catch us every Sunday night Midnight - 2".

So what was the title of the Sunday night show??? Hopefully someone will come through with the correct date (and hopefully the full show) of this show with Tribe.

dirtywaters wrote:That Rza/ODB show I posted was from a Sunday night, I'm sure of that. I must have wrote the wrong date on my cassette when I labeled it, odds are the show was from the Sunday before or after that date. I used to tape the KCR and Hot 97 shows on the same tape sometimes..

I never remembered them having a Hot 97 show during the week, but it could have been. I know their time slot on Sunday changed a few times, and the show changed names from 'Boogie and The Barber' to the 'XL Show' at some point.
Haha I guess the simplest thing would've been to ask you, instead of goin thru this rigmarole...
"Boogie and the Barber" that's the name, was trying out all combos of their names but couldn't come up with it. I think it changed to "XL Show" when Bobbito stepped off after the split (?)

That's helpful you uploaded Let Me At Em too Verge, since many people might see it here on PhilaFlava but not know about it on my blog. I definitely plan to ask J Smooth about an original copy in the near future, or if anybody else here ever meets J, be sure to ask him too.

I've got some more comedy from WKCR. This is "Turn Up The Bass" with the cohost Lord Sear yellin his ass off over some loud distorted music. It was one of the funniest moment of the show, I hope yall like it

Here are the 5 WKCR freestyles from the Farewell Fondle Em alblum Verge, with more dates. In the liner notes under the Lord Sear cut, it states that the track would be available on 'an upcoming Fruitmeat Records release called "Heat - Funniest moments in KCR history" due 2002' and that the 'turning up the bass was originally conceived by Stretch Armstrong' [classic liner note material, jokers]...

www.mediafire.com/?anyyygtmgh1

1 - Kool Keith [we already know from] 19 November 92
2 - Lord Sear was from 18 Dec 98 [thanks fatboy, that much longer youtube clip is jokes]
3 - Cage 25 February 93
4 - El P, DBA the Lyrical Punisher & J-Treds 11 Aug 94
5 - Arsonists 28 March 96

ye never know, seems theyd actually thought about a comp of the stupidest shit from the show at one point, looks like it. Also looks like we may have to compile it ourselves

I was in storage yesterday and pulled out a box of tapes I have from recording WKCR. I don't have a cassette player anymore but I saw earlier in the forum some people here offered to rip the tapes - can someone do that? How can we connect?

Anyway, below is a list of tapes that I have. I know we are looking just for stretch & bob, but I had a ton of tapes from the CM Famalam program and figured I'd note them here as well. Where dates are listed twice, it just means that there are 2 separate cassette tapes (I usually just put the tape in and let it roll - I didn't stop and start to cut out the talk). Where I put a name in parentheses, it refers to the notes I wrote on the tape itself - for the most part I think the names are the guests that were there live on the show, but it is possible that in some cases I was just noting some of the artists whose songs were played so I could identify the tape (and they weren't actually up at the station). Also, I know in a few places the dates don't look quite right but without being able to play the tapes right now I can't verify.

I really thought I had another box of tapes from summer 94 into 95 but right now I can't find it. I then moved away and the Stretch/Bob tapes here are mostly after 1998 when I got back to the NJ area (and then a lot of CM Famalam shows after that).

Here's a nice little trip down memory lane for those that visited Bobbito's Footwork. Found this randomly hunting the web. A nice little segment which include's bobbito and what appears to be a young j zone talking to eli. Starts at 2mins 30sec. It's in danish apart from the footwork segment.
Tried downloading but i have no clue how too.

Ghetto Inmates- Ghetto Inmates/The 6 Way

part 2
Ghetto Inmates freestyle

Johnny Blanco & Capital D- You Donג€™t Want It
Johnny Blanco & Capital D freestyle
Tragedy Khadafi- Blood Type
Cocoa Brovaz f/MOP- Bucktown rmx
Mobb Deep- Give Up The Goods
Krunchtime

The tapes were out of order when originally recorded (on tape 2, side b was used before side a) and I didnג€™t notice until after I ripped the whole show. So when you hear Lord Sear announce that Ghetto Inmates are up next and you just heard them freestyle for 20 minutes, thereג€™s your answer. But it still ends with krunchtime, so disorientation should be minimal.

Nice. Yeah the show before them was decent some times. When they played the more reggae type shit, that is. That's the first place I heard that sublime joint and, am I wrong, or was there a remix with Wu heads with the same beat or something similar? I know I also remember a faster paced reggae-ish track with Method Man from that show.

Anyways, the show that came on afterwards was at times, really dope, on the funk/soul tip. Quick story about that one:
Crazy DJ Bazarro from Dysfunkshunal Familee was taping one night and fell asleep like most of us would, from time to time, towards the end. When he woke up and listened to the tape, he had some of the next show on there. The track he sampled for "Feelin Da Highs" came on and he dumped it straight to his sampler and made that beat right away. He never even knew the artist or song it was until years later when someone online investigated it and told him. He says he may be using that track again for something new.
aleph wrote:^^Sampled straight from the tape? Wow, that is crazy! Which show came on afterwards? I thought it was the "jazz man"
Yep. I forgot the name of the show, wasn't it like "soul central station" or something like that? Maybe the dude's name was jazzman something or other, can't remember.

Also, they're doing a Doom non albumcuts type thread in My Two Cents so I separated that M.I.C. demo and threw it in a small folder with the Gas Drawls demo.

Download them both here:

Thanks to aleph.

And here's the thread I mentioned:

Bob still runs his trap through the end half of the song though.

That is a really good night especially for 98. All the unknown tracks are ill as hell except for one I don't like. The first unknown on Pt2 I've heard a few times. Pretty sure it was posted somewhere in TROY at one time or another. Great track, someone has to know it.
aleph wrote:Ah good work Verge. Few things are as pleasurable as filling in those ? blanks. Which track don't you like?
Thanks, but you've done much more. Just id'ing all the ones you do before submitting them here is impressive, let alone diggin the tapes out and ripping them and/or making the extra effort to actually get them from bomba. Props, thanks and peace to bomba too.
I can't thank you guys enough for all this work.

It was maybe the second or third unknown on Pt2. A more thugged out sounding beat that really stood out from the rest of the night, imo. I believe they mentioned something, "east coast west coast" in there.
But I really love that first ? one on Pt2. That shit is pretty great for what it is. A more somber joint about appreciating life and missing people you've lost and whatnot. I probably have it in one of my hds, but I don't think I would ever figure out what it is. Maybe I'll separate it and throw it in the ID thread.
aleph wrote:^^ Going thru bomba's tapes is not really work to me. I never saw the value of recording whole shows until now. I need the Mr. Peabody Wayback Machine...

Oh, and don't bother separating that joint to put in the ID thread. I already did it back in February (forgot which page it was tho). No luck there either.

Hot 97 show ca. summer 1998. Guest: Big L.

Thanks for all the shows and thanks for asking what filesharers we prefer.
Personally I fucks with rapidshare, megaupload, mediafire, and divshare(for one song previews mostly).
I had accounts on all of these but had to drop my mediafire one cause it was too problematic and expensive and times are too tough to be having 4 premium accounts. Lol
Megaupload has been the best one, imho, so far. It's about neck and neck with rapidshare but for people who don't have accounts, I think megaupload might be better.

This show is most likely from Sunday June 1, 1997 because when Chubb Rock was talking he mentions how his album The Mind dropped "last week" and that album was released Tuesday May 27, 1997.
