the music today does not even compare....
i see why they are doing it but the music is a important component and it just doesnt add up
even the indie hip-hop in the 90s was great & classic....

i dont know how this will turnout considering how different stretch & bobbito are musically

As much as I love listening to the tapes from the 90's I'm happy to see how Stretch and Bob have evolved, that's good to hear they played all genres and didn't stick to Hip Hop. There's plenty of other DJs who are willing to spin Golden Era rarities 24/7/365 we can find online nowadays if we want.

No question, so happy to see them happy if that makes sense. Not just doing the usual over-played Golden Era rubbish, as ya mention B.

Just pressed play on the show just now, and the first thing I hear is Bobb talkin nonsense about cupcakes ! Awesome, THIS is what im down for, big big laughs and of course, good music, regardless of genre.

This clip is great too, Breakbeat Lou talkin about the pair, and how the show 'changed history' not just peoples lives.

yeah, these guys are far less narrow-minded than 99% of their fans

Their new show was a good listen, and it's good to hear them doing stuff together again. I dig the mix of genres. I'm a huge fan of breaks and all good music. But... I expected a little more talking, and more mixing (seemed like they just played records start to end). And I didn't really hear much that I haven't heard before. The 45's stretch was playing, the Turtles, Fatback band, etc., I mean it's cool, classic stuff, but pretty basic. Seemed like these guys quickly grabbed a bunch of records and rolled up there. Not that they need to play the rarest stuff to have a good show, or cut doubles of everything, but it didn't seem like a lot of thought/effort went into it. As far as hip hop- these guys have vaults of stuff that no one else has, demos, promos, remixes, I'd really love for them to tap into that and get into the stories behind them. And maybe dig a little deeper, cut some shit up, Stretch has skills and deep crates. Maybe I'm being too critical?

I really enjoyed it but as ya said, I didnt hear much that I havent before either. And im no breaks head [Well, not like yourself] but I enjoyed hearin the classic and not so classic tunes. Fatback just made me laugh cos the pair of them have used to bugalong to that as Sear beatboxed it on a couple of occasions.

It didn't seem like a lot of thought/effort went into it, period, but it is the first one and they are evidently worldwide these days, so therefore, busy.

Stretch was playing very crackly records, prob all those 7"s he's picked up, but whoah, they sounded awful. AND I LOVE the authenticity most of the time, but it wound me up a wee bit. Especially cos Stretch is usually so sonically on-point. And the reverb / delay on whatever mixer/ board they are using was handy, but it sounded like they were using it for the first time.

Over critical? Well, speaking for myself, I know I cant help it, but yes, and only cos we all just miss the og show, and want as close to that as poss. And that may happen before the end of July but who knows.

Loved hearing Stretch gettin a bit crunchy about Bobb letting slip about the other radio show they are planning.

As you also mentioned Nes, better guests than Emskee, and the stories and demos and such might come soon but for now, im just happs hearing good music played by 2 of the coolest people on the planet.

I enjoyed it, and I'll definitely check for anything they do. You're definitely right, we all have our own ideas of how their show should go. It actually went off pretty much how I expected. When you listened to the old show, Bobbito would always kind of hate on guests for trying to promote their albums and live shows, 'promotions' (whisper), but now it's like every other sentence Bobbito is throwing in plugs haha. I guess he kind of gets it now.

i never thought these guys would b back on air in today's hip-hop
but i like where they went wit it
as long as they dont play the crap thats out there now im all for their new show
im pretty sure as the years passed now they have a couple of rare joints that came out during when they was on air but never played, they might play those joints now...

It was exactly what I was expecting them to do, to be honest. Musically, it was like a Chances with Wolves episode--not a bad thing--Bob was actually on the show some time back, and tells them he heard they were the illest cats on East Village Radio. They tell Bob him and Stretch's show was their primary influence/inspiration. I think they talk about going to Footwork to buy records and being intimidated because they were such fans. I dug it. That smooth mix of the bassline from 'Smiling Billy pt. 1' to kick things off had my head noddin' like Mad Skillz from jump...

I very highly doubt they are going to be breaking out any demos or goodies from the 90's era. I'd bet they couldn't even name any of them. If we are lucky and maybe if we get after them on social media we can get them to do ONE show where they do something like this. Other than that it's going to be more of the same of the first show. I mean, I hope I am wrong, but that's my gut feeling.

We should consider petitioning them, though. Give us one show so they can actually plan it out, and make it like a real S&B show. Play their favorite 90's records with Stretch mixing and have Bob play a bunch of demos and promos /various treats.

BTW, I know someone was trying to ID the beat from the Raggedy Man Freestyle. I knew I knew what it was but could never place my finger on it for a couple of years. Not sure if anyone ID'd it here as I am out of touch, but I gave up cause it was driving me crazy. I know I knew what it was. I rarely get time to listen to music much but the other day I was on the train and for whatever reason put on Lord Finessse the Awakening. As soon as I heard the drums I knew that was it. Pretty great feeling. lol..

Anyway, sorry if it was ID'd here or heads already knew. Pretty sure someone was asking for it..

Hi, I'm listening some times this song in the Stretch & Bobbito's tapes, for example in some of 1995, the chorus says "Story of my life".. Would anybody know what song is this one?.
