Unreleased Too Poetic album on Tommy Boy

Post by Jesse »

This is a never before heard album that Too Poetic (Poetic of Gravediggaz's first group) turned into Tommy Boy in 1989:

Poetic's DJ Kaos just sent me the tracks to go along with an interview I did with him. Please retweet, link, fwd to anyone interested in this sort of thing.

Thanks for this. I always loved the "gOd Me Funky" joint and wondered if he
did an album back then.
You should post more here, Jesse.

What you mean with ''dont hold me to it" ? :race:

Anyway, after i listened Punk Barbarians LP and right now when i check Too Poetic i feel beat or scratch in "Do For Self". This unrelased shit is very very good, good with smoke session and Too Poetic inn background offsest or sometin like that.....

"Their first official demo featured the underground bangers ג€œBruthas G.R.Y.M.ג€, ג€œCircle-Circle-Dot-Dotג€, the politically charged ג€œPopcornג€ and ג€œLivinג€™ In Hell (Had To Survive)ג€, the name-calling ג€œTurtle Soupג€, and a neighborhood favorite, the battle rhymes of ג€œGRYMnasticsג€."

"These cassette tape ג€œdubsג€ floating around the NY streets in the late 80s and early 90s and their demo eventually made their way to the seasoned musical ear of fellow Amityvillain Prince Paul (Stetsasonic, De La Soul, Gravediggaz) from his association with the local Long Island artists who had met the brothers and saw their raw talent. Their original demo, even today, is still one of Prince Paulג€™s favorites."

we need to somehow unearth this demo.......it must be amazing.....they almost signed a 7 figure deal off of it before Brainstorm left hip hop altogether....after which poetic became homeless....

and more.....this is after Six Feet Deep....

" in 1996 where he recorded the hard-edged song ג€œBayaa!ג€ and they mention a compilation they were working on....

im interested in this but more in the original demos that were mentioned.....

obviously

 I mean don't be mad at me if I'm wrong. Thinking about it, I guess it
could be that same guy. I had him confused with P.Original who was down
with Artifacts in some fashion.

And after listening twice, I still like the og God Me Funky the best.
There's definitely joints on this, though. I don't know how I would've felt
about it in 89, though, with all that other greatness dropping.
