Grap Luva questions

Post by Jaz »

1.Was "Beats, Beats, Beats" just "Beats and Rhymes" labeled wrongly and is there a good quality version of this out there please?
2-Why has Grap never had a solo album?
3-Wasn't there some talk about a PR and Grap album once?

I'm not sure if this will answer your question (I don't know what the song "Beats and Rhymes" is) but I can speak on the mislabeling of the 12". The labeling for this and the Baby Deda "Everyman for Himself" 12" were switched, so technically the "Beats, Beats, Beats" 12" is "Everyman for Himself" and vice versa. They were just white label pressings of tape recordings from the radio (I'm assuming from Future Flavas) and sounded like shit. I have both of these records and remember being dissapointed that they were just fucking tape recordings pressed up.

Yeah, this is the same song. The Baby Deda one made it clear that it was a radio recording because you hear a voice at the very beginning. I just figured that this was from the radio also because it has the same sound quality.

I have all of those, but a good comp never the less, at that pic of Grap, if I didn't know it was him, I would have assumed it was some dread from the yard.

it's absolutely unbelivable how someone as dope as Grap Luva never dropped a solo album. i wonder what things would have been like if InI's "Center Of Attention" actually would've been officially released on Elektra in '96 and promoted properly.

maybe then we would get another Pete Rock produced InI album as well as solo albums from Grap Luva and Rob-O (i know about "Rhyme Pro", but wasn't that just a compilation of various tracks recorded over the years).

maybe Grap is working on something tho, he got alot of good producer friends (plus he's a seriously ill beatmaker himself). Kev Brown, Oddisee, Damu The Fudgemunk, Pete Rock and himself on beats and Grap on the mic - now that could easily be a classic LP. remember this:

Grap @ Damu's studio - Seven Minutes of Sounds (interview, beats, etc)

^For real man, i did sleep. I knew him as a pretty dope emcee and i knew he did some of his own beats, but no i didn't know he was on his shit like that. Shiiiit, I'd be willing to cop an instrumental album if the beats are this ill.

Verge: He did the "Step Up" beat on 'Center Of Attention' LP too, how crazy is that? one of the best beats on the whole damn album, which is a classic one imo. i also heard he did the track "Press Rewind" on Deda Baby Pa's debut that was also unreleased until 2003.
