I don't know is it really t.r.o.y. material but Nick is doing his thing right there!
Not a bad beat at all, ha-haa - hopefully we'll get that Nick/Phantasm album and also "Cellar Sounds Vol.2" is what we really need!

comments and let heads know whats good with "Quarter To Midnight",
though. It's only been like 15 years since it got played.

Hmm, I dont like it as much as the old shit from nick wiz..

Ow and Verge, why dont you ask Nick wiz about that Quarter to midnight track?

Nick Wiz is so under appreciated man....he straight up laced some folks back in the 90's....

Yes, I was about to write that this new beat is nice by 2010 standards, but it felt stupid at the end... we all know what year it is and unfortunatelly none of these heroes from 90s gonna make beats like back then anymore... it is what it is and this is the reason why I need "Cellar Sounds Vol.2" more than anything else by Nick Wiz

We might as well just make this the thread for newer stuff that TROY
heads would be interested in. Whether it's older crews doing newer music
that is actually good, or newer music that is actually good.

Here's a new Dysfunkshunal Familee video:

No prob, Verge. Nice to hear that Kil Ripkin's ish. He (o' sumwon from his promo team) contacted me and asked me fo' postin' link to this vid. So I did cuz I think it'z very good track. In fact I was lil' bit lazy to watch out fo' right topic. That thread passed  We don't need same posts duplicated in several topics, am I rite?

To supplement there's info whut they asked to post too:

I really enjoyed doom and castle diplomat, but i think main flow has been hit and miss since then. Hope you enjoy this track, my homeboy Eversor made the beat, Esoteric drops a guest verse, too.

ps: someone please tell me how to post the actual youtube videos

I think a big problem with today's hip-hop is that the beats/mixing is maybe TOO polished... Nothing is dusty like it was in the '90s, and nothing sounds raw anymore. It must be the technology, I don't know--the samples aren't as unique or creative and fucking synthesizers are making everything sound so electronic and bouncy. You know what I mean? Beats are loud and try too hard to be "epic," when the real hardcore beats used to be somewhat low-key and actually menacing.

Posted: Sun Jun 13, 2010 2:56 am

And even these new music videos are too polished with this HD shit, it makes it all look so fake!

@ Teddy C.D.

I know whut ya mean exactly. We have many good uderground projects what are really good fo' example Reks's LP's, main part of Wu-Fam projects Duck Down LP's or MR. Green's projects. I like that ish BUT on other hand there's sumtnih' missin' in it and I can't feel it so much. And you wrote it rite, I think. Production is so polished and all of that sounds lil' bit "synthetic"...
It's like dat when I bought Nine's Nine Lives LP I listened it 'round and 'round many weeks. And when I bought KRS-One & Buckshot's collabo LP I heard it wontime, I said "Yah, it'z good LP" and I heard it a few times to deez day. It'z good LP but taste is not so "caloric". Same as non-alcoholic beer. It looks like a beer, tastes like a beer, smells like a beer but there's missin' dat whut gives you dat good feelin' when you drink it - alcohol  I think dat's bout technology what producers now use, you're rite... And same it is wit vidz.

That's my biggest problem with new music. It sounds so synthetic and overpolished.

You still have mpc's but the overall technology improvement gives everything this glossy, clear layer. There aren't any more dirty, muffled drums.

Nah, still there are some artistz who can do their things rite. Fo' example Freestyle Professors:

<object width="500" height="405"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/hy0A0OzIUAc&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/hy0A0OzIUAc&hl ... 0&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="500" height="405"></embed></object>

or Problemz's LP BK Representative.

And Sonny Seeza's LP Tytanium brought bac some ill ish last year:

<object width="500" height="405"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/qmGiLiErn4Q&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/qmGiLiErn4Q&hl ... 0&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="500" height="405"></embed></object>

But there are not many things like this...

This is everything I hate about Dr.Dre's last over 10 years of beats. Too fuckin clean and even though he sometimes still samples, he also uses those gay ass sounding synths, sounding all classical and shit. fuckin garbage, when he was an ill mothafucker for many years.

Anyways, this right here is probably the only graf song that I like at all, besides Wrong Side:

Geah, In Today's Hip Hop There Are Too Many Synths And Bouncy Drums That Give It A "Plastic" Sound... Plus We All Know What Lyrics Are All About.
Back In Tha Dayz The Vibe Was Given To Tracks By Rappers' Flow - At Least 60% Of A Track Greatness Was Guaranteed By Raps, And The Rest By The Beat, But Nowadays It's Vice Versa... I Think It's Because Today Hip Hop Music Is Listened By The Majority Of Average Radio Listeners, Which Commercializes It And Kinda Forces The Whole Industry To Do What Brings Money, Forgettin' About The Things That Really Built Hip Hop Music, The Roots.

Shit That Was Considered Hype And Phat 15 Years Ago Today Is Considered As The "Underground" - Now That's Some Shit I Can't Relate To...
Now Some May Think That It's Because Today All They Talk About In Their Tracks Is Money, Whips, Bags Of Sess And Bitches, But Back Then They Also Was Sayin' The Same Shit, Except That It Really Made U Wanna Listen To And Be Amazed By It, Unlike Today When It's All Borin', Primitive And Pathetic.

All We Gotta Do Iz Hope Fo' Betta' Dayz...
