Hip Hop Super Soldiers: Help Needed

Post by kevin beacham »

Now following my dramatic subject line....

I'm working a series of Hip Hop archive/history projects that I've mentioned before. I'm still finalizing the kinks in the massive one, but i have a few smaller ones to build up to that.

I know this board is super knowledgeable and I would love to have peoples help with input, corrections whatever...

First up, I'm doing research on artists who only did music thru appearances on other peoples projects or even just a track on a compilation. Anyone who had a 12" single of their own would be exempt. I know there can be some tricky ones/grey areas with people doing other projects, other groups, etc so we have to look at this on a case by case basis.

Here's a link to what I have so far and what I need is:
A)if you see anyone on here who doesn't below because they had any of
their own release let me know so I can remove them
B)If you know of anyone who fits the category but not listed let me know

Oh yeah, I list some songs the people appear on but didn't list everything but if you know of a rarity they had, definitely let it be known. Thanx for the help peoples!!!

Now that's a worthwhile exercise in academia if I've ever heard one.

What about artists whose few appearances include demos that remain unreleased (and largely unknown) today?

NY underground rapper Genesis had two demos circulating college radio(mostly on Stretch & Bobbito) before his official debut guesting on Vast Aire's most recent record. I wouldn't think that those demos would count as "releases".

Thanx sir. I'm doing a separate one of these of people who only have demos and never were on a official release.

I have been doing this in stages. I have already done:
1)Artists who only had "One Album" (+singles & appearances)
2)Artists who only had "Singles" but never an album

the above one is #3 and the demos is #4.... I definitely to go back and further update #1 & #2 also so I'll post those up soon as I have a chance to put it in a spread sheet.

thank you sir.

he doesn't sound anything like Fish B One. He is uncredited on that "underground" track from "Saga Of a Hoodlum" album.

I know discogs is incomplete so heads are welcome to strike any of these off the list.
thanx man!!

Funny, don't know how I don't have city morgue on there. That's a favorite one of mine and I just found New Child and about to set up an interview for these series... I have Ill Rahlos but not Boku separately.

I had Page on there but he is also in the group Freestyle Professor and they did a bunch of stuff so I took him off. is he really one of the "group" members? that's how he's listed on discogs....which certainly is wrong a lot...

I don't know what list this would go on per se but Deshawn E. Thunder (now Sunkiss) only has one unreleased song from a compilation (Snakes on D.I.T.C.'s Unreleased '94 project). As far as I know, everything else is guest work.

Similarly: Page the Hand Grenade.

good looking Bigg Boss!

I know that's a lot to look at so here's a few I was wondering if they other material of their own:

Helix C Armageddon (Lunchroom, Blacklisted)
Erick Ferguson (Clinical Rhymes, Adrenaline Rush)
Mentally Gifted (back n forth,
Joe Sinister (Under The Sun, Payback II, Dirtman Freestyle)
Krazy D(Panic Zone, Hypest From Cypress)

-Also noticed some errors so correcting these:
Mis-Spell: DJ Glaze (down with Snoop), Mechinism (Tuff Crew)
DELETE: Ital The Ruffian
DOUBLE ENTRY: CJ The Cynic, K Tez

Two more:

Kenyatta a/k/a Kid Crumbs. Aside from early work w/the Roots, there's a "single" which apparently was only released as video.
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/0mIswF36HdU&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/0mIswF36HdU&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Also, Spoon of Iodine, Good Life legend.
:icedit: Actually Spoon had a couple of semifamous demos, so I don't know if he counts in this context.

I'm pretty sure Page aka Stanley Grimes never was a member, right now it's Branesparker and Giff aka Geo (of Geo & Ricochet), and I think at one time Don-Q and G.W. Foxx were members. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong..

Mentally Gifted was also featured on Da Youngsta's Pass Da Mic single

Pretty sure it's the same mc (because of the Flushing connection): C-Lo also appeared on Men vs. Many off Mic Geronimo's 1st LP

And what about D Rock & Braindead, weren't they both members of Dysfunkshunal Famlee?

Emskee is a member of The Good People http://www.discogs.com/artist/Good+People,+The

Gol'den Smiles put out a 12" on Rockboy in '98: We Got It/How We Do

Grimace Love at least put out a mixtape in 2007 called "The Zig Zag Man (Pre Album Smoke Session", don't know if followed it up with an album..

II Unorthodox Just A Lil Flava was a 12" release

Just a guess: Maybe Illaquion = Ilacoin who put out a 12" on Game Rec. and like Doug E. Fresh, he's from Harlem

What about Laquan, is he a different from the one who put out "Notes Of A Native Son" in '90 and later another album on Rap-A-Lot as Poppa LQ?

Also not sure if they the same: http://www.discogs.com/Passion-Ballers- ... se/1737518

Phats Bossilini at least put out "Trials & Tribulations", CD from '03

I think Rahzii was a member of Crusaders For Real Hip Hop

Spoon was another one that I was debating...I think he does fit the criteria. How about J Sumbi?? Was he an official member of Freestyle Fellowship on "To Whom It May Concern" who left the group? or is he just featured on there?

thanx for these. I'll update these confirmed ones. I'll look into that Illaquion possibility. The II Unorthodox was one of the "grey areas" that song was on a 12" but only released of the D&D compilation so it "sort of' fits here. That Laquan was something I meant to double check...I'll do that now.

This doesn't answer any of the above questions, but it seems like TWIMC was essentially a collection of pre-existing solo demos culled together and then put under this umbrella. It may be that the Fellowship was more of a loose collective at that point. J Sumbi was also credited as half of a separate group called All-N-All.

QUESTIONS:

-On Big L's "8 Iz Enuff" did Terra, Trooper J, Buddah Bless, Mike Boogie, or
Twan every rhyme on anything else?
-What songs did Bloodshed rhyme on?
-Microphone Nut on the Da Graveyard, did he rhyme on anything else.
I swore I knew of at least one more joint...

da Gas Chamber, I don't know how you would approach that one. Yeah, he
was on the Who Lit Dat Shit 12", but it was a split 12" and the A side was his.

II Unorthodox was on kind of a split 12" with another Juice, but I believe it
was from the D n D project, so I don't know how you would look at that one:
http://www.discogs.com/2-Unorthodox-Jui ... ter/176979
EDIT: sorry, didn't see Krisch already mention that one.

Ital The Ruffian had an EP and I believe an unofficial album:
http://www.discogs.com/artist/Ital+Tha+Ruffian
EDIT: shit, I see you already noticed this one.

Joe Sinista I'm guessing was also on "Krunchtime", not sure if I ever heard that:
http://www.discogs.com/Terminator-X-God ... ase/299927

Are you sure that Keith Keith isn't Keith Murray? I haven't heard that Fat
Joe song in years but I know he went by Keefy Keef for a record or 2 in the early 90's.

Raggedy Man had demos, unless I'm confusing him. Wonderful world of gravitation? "Raggedy man from the gravity clan"?

Serge: Not positive if this is the same guy that has been mentioned a few times here lately. He battled Freshco in like 91? Had a demo or two from Bobbito show?
Either way, I don't think he had any records.

Shawn Black = Black Attack

Tabb: Not sure, but there was a guy named Big Tabb who had a record or two, if you wanna check if he sounds similar, from Philly:
http://www.discogs.com/artist/Big+Tabb
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/GpD4yMPGzPM&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/GpD4yMPGzPM&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Tommy Gun: I believe there was also a Tommy Gun in MIC or on a DOOM song or something. Same dude, I don't know.

Thanks for throwing "Vandemator" on there. I been wondering who he was
for years. My first guess was that maybe it was Neek The Exotic, but he does not sound like him.

Twan had one 12ג€ in ג€™98 (and still records music, I talked with him fairly recently).

Terra is only on 8 Iz Enuff, discogs is wrong, that's some other guy.

Mike Boogie has one beat that he produced (if discogs if correct because there are multiple Mike Boogies as well).

Trooper J has some demos.

Microphone Nut has material recorded but not released (as far as I know).

There's also the demo version of 8 Iz Enuff and one or two Stretch & Bob freestyle verses for each as well.

Buddah Bless

http://biglaffiliates.blogspot.com/2009 ... uddah.html

http://sharebee.com/553e3bad

01. Intro
02. Pimpology 101
03. Pimp Party ft. Almighty Infinite, Big Boy & Eyeslow
04. Two Shots of Henny ft. Allah Real, Angie Niel, Eyeslow, Hot Flames & P.I.
05. U Donג€™t Care ft. Hot Flames & Killah Priest
06. Return of Da Cobra
07. Gun Talk ft. Street Life
08. King Toast Queen ft. Masta Killa, Solomon Childs & U-God
09. U.S.A. ft. Eyeslow, Ghostface Killah, Hot Flames, Masta Killa, P.I. & Todd
10. Real Nillaz ft. Eyeslow, Ghostface Killah & Raekwon
11. Alwayz N.Y. ft. Icarus Da Don & Wu-Tang Clan
12. Witג€™ O Witג€™ Out ft. Sagat

Buddah Bless was a Wu-Tang affiliate for a while in '90s (there's another Buddah Bless as well). Wit' O Wit' Out is the only one that's a non-Wu track and it was released before 8 Iz Enuff ('94).

Mike Boogie

http://biglaffiliates.blogspot.com/2009 ... oogie.html

http://sharebee.com/2be75caf

Illkuts Crew - Babbit's Feast ft. DJ Manabees (Produced by Mike Boogie)

Mike Boogie was supposed to drop something but still hasn't.

Trooper J

http://biglaffiliates.blogspot.com/2009 ... per-j.html

http://sharebee.com/b50f3a5b

01. Ambitions of Men
02. Environment
03. What You Runnin' For?
04. Bad to the Bone

These demos are from pretty recently (I think 2007), they aren't old demos.

C-Town had one official single but I don't think Stan Spit ever dropped any solo material. All that is on Big L Affiliates as well.

Bloodshed was on:

Fuckinג€™ Witג€™ Known Felons
The Corn
Give Up the Game
Biscuits and Bangers
I Remember When
Hard to Get By
Harlem USA
Harlem Nights
Donג€™t Sleep
Star Is Born
Harlem USA (Uptown)
Fare One Pt. I
Fare One Pt. II
Paint the Town Red
Doinג€™ It
Ill Flow
American Dream

Plus the Caged Fury demos and a couple of freestyles (and some ghostwriting apparently).

He also went by the alternate spelling "Snaggapuss" aka "Snaggdadon", neither of which can be found on discogs.

He released a CD-R called The Lost Chronicles of Snaggapuss, release date unlisted (2007?). The title implies old shit from the vaults, but that's not what it be...

Probably no relation but I'm sure not everybody has heard this ill demo, so what the hell.. Peace to Blockhead for this one.

..and I'm guessing that Bless is the same cat from the "Baby J - The Birth" album?
