Kon and Amir

Post by stype_ones »

I remember the first time I heard a Kon and Amir tape. I believe it was 1997. I had heard guys like Riz, Spinna, even Stretch play originals during mix shows, but I had never heard a tape like theirs. My boy had it and dubbed it for me. I rocked the shit so crazy for months. As each installment came out, I was quick to get to Fat Beats to copp the next one.

I love these joints man. I hope those who do not have them can enjoy them too. I will up a new one each day, but will try to up more than 1 a day when I can.

those guys set a very high standard for sample and breaks mixtapes.

on tracks vol 1 - 6 are pretty much god damned legendary. however, the jake one and supreme (conmen) tapes are god damned amazing as well.

i'll put some treats tonight.

also kon and amir's off track compilations are excellent as well (if you're into the disco/boogie).

@youngguru

Word, I would love to hear those Conmen joints.

I love the Off Track Comps as well, but not as much as the On Track series.

Kings of Diggin was dope as well.

I've been digin for breaks since 93..

I bought the first "On Track" tape from FAT BEATS back in late 97 when it first dropped.

I talked to Amir a few times and got a shout at the end of vol.4

I've been collecting beat diggers/dj's etc.. break mixes ever since that first "On Track".

Other incredible mixes come from these cats..

The Conmen (Jake One & Mr. Supreme)
Soulman (too much too mention)
DJ Muro-King Of Diggin series
Mo Majid-Wall Of Fame vol 1,2,3 (got em' all and they're mad rare now)
Paul Nice-Breaks For Days and Soul On The Grill vol.1&2
Diplo & Tripledouble-Aeiou vol.1&2 (vol.2 is really dope)

Of course theres the infamous Cut Chemist and DJ Shadow "Brainfreeze" and "Product Placement" mixes.

I've got a lot of other break mixes from various cats too but just too much too mention.

Also i've got DJ MK's "Bastard Breaks vol.1 but i'm looking for 2&3..

There's another mix i'm looking for but i can't think of it right now,but i remember it's 2 japenese cats,i'll look it up tonight.

I figured no one would know anything about these type of mixes in the request thread,so i'm trying to get at people in this thread since it's about break mixes.

The Kon & Amir tapes are classic. the On Track. Off Track. if anyone is interested I have all the Soulmans, tons of Muro and Ken Sport tapes.

Word up on the Soulman tapes too -those are good. The Paul Nice joints are also good too (any heads here from Poughkeepsie?). The Molemen have also done some dope tapes too.

I've heard a wide variety-- but the best ones in my opinion are by Kon and Amir or the Conmen.

everything Paul Nice used on Breaks For Days was dug up at Record City in Poughkeepsie. that used to be my spot.

Can we try and ID all the breaks. Not the originals. But what they were used on ;)

Riz's 'Live From Brooklyn' parts 1 & 2 are probably the best introduction to breaks mixes. I've played them to friends who arent that into Hip Hop and they love them.

Mr Thing from the UK is a beast with the breaks aswell (and pretty much flawless on the tables). Heres his 'Champion Nerd' mix from earlier this year.

I don't know if they were official or some compilation people on the net put together.

Word, Kon n amir got mad deep crates. Their "Kings Of Diggin" side is where I found that other version of "Take Me With You" at, in above link.

Like someone said, their Off Track comps got joints too.

Since we're at it, anyone got that "Papi Chulo Breaks" by Maleet? I can't even find a spot to cop it or anything anywhere online.

Word, Thanks Sleep! Gotta try to DL all of these... lol

The Off Track series is more of The Disco/Boogie/Funk variety. I love it, it's just different than the On Track joints, which is basically breaks. I love the first 3 On Tracks, but the 6th one was just a full blown classic in it's own right. There is some serious shit on there.

This was my shit from the first Off Track CD:

Big fan of the 'On Track' mixes. I had some crappy taped copies, but replaced them with the CDs when we stocked them at Mr Bongo.

Can anybody tell me, are these rips of the 'On Track' mixes broken into seperate files, or 1 continuous files per mix?

Thanks.
