And on the Ego Trip website there's a great video of Gang Starr performing Take It Personal on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno:

thanks for that Krisch!

GURU was one of the greatest ever, his death really affected me. he rapped with more heart than 99% of all emcees out there.. he's surely missed and the records he did with DJ Premier and the two first Jazzmatazz albums are timeless music that will keep his spirit alive.

Taken from a CD I bought at a Guru show back in 2005, heres a few short freestyles over some classic (non-Gang Starr) Primo beats such as '6th Sense', 'Nas Is Like', 'Unbelievable' and 'So Ghetto' aswell as Mobb Deep's 'Quiet Storm'...

Damn, has it really been a year?
Kool Keith: I wore a straw hat with a feather to the last Source Awards. When I got to Madison Square Garden everybody was looking at me. When I got back home I seen everybody and their mother in their video wearing a fuckinג€™ straw hat with a feather in it.

Tim Dog: ג€œWhat Kool Keith gonna wear? Iג€™m gonna do that shit in my video. Iג€™m gonna wear that shit really quick. Whatג€™s Tim Dog gonna wear?ג€

yeah i couldn't believe it either. a while back i compiled every known Gang Starr track not on their retail albums (meaning GURU on a original DJ Premier production) into three volumes; the non-album tracks, the collaboration with other artists, and the preemo remixes. since it's been a year since the legendary lyricist passed i thought it was fitting to bring it back as well as write a little memorial. check it out:

I'm here at home listening to a copy of the Step In The Arena instrumentals on vinyl, reminiscing on the great memories brought by his music. R.I.P. to Keith Elam. I look forward to hearing a copy of the Premier tribute.

Was waiting in line at Six Flags the other day and the topic of ex-girlfriends comes up, so we obviously started doing the chorus of the Gangstarr song. Then coincidentally heard that very song later on, the same day. R.I.P. Guru
