Lil Kim 'Big Momma Thang' unreleased versions (1996)

Post by step one »

2 mixes of this Stretch Armstrong produced track that eventually appeared on the 'Hardcore' album with a Jay Z verse replacing Kim's Faith Evans and 2Pac disses.

http://djstepone.blogspot.com/2011/05/l ... eased.html

The track features Kim taking a few shots at Faith Evans and 2Pac and must have been (like most/all of her songs) written by Biggie. You can hear his cadence and humour all over it...

"Uh, who shot ya?
Who knows how they got ya?
Fed up...wet up
Maybe next time your punk ass will Keep Ya Head Up!"

I'm not sure but would guess that the lyrics were removed from the official release due to Pac having died just before it came out. Its a bit of an under-the-radar track and well worth a listen.

im at work and cant check, but is this any better quality than the one that's been floating around for years now?

also, LOL@Biggie using his female artist to insult his wife and a dude he was 'above' dissing on wax.

I've always thought Jay wrote this tbh

havent heard the other rip but this straight off my 12" copy and quality os pretty good. I'd guess Biggie wrote it but coulda been Jay.
It is a bit  that Big always denied any involvement in setting up Pac and then admit to it through Kim's track.

I was suprised to see Stretch Armstrong's name on the credits - wouldnt have thought this was the sort of thing he'd have played back in 96-97

Thanks! The original version with the different lyrics was played by Stretch & Bobbito. But I think I never heard that other one with the Love Unlimited sample before, I have to track down that 12"..

Think I bought it on ebay about 8 years ago or something. I couldnt find it on discogs. Suprised it hasnt been more widely available given that anything BIG/Pac related seems to be fairly easy to find.

thats another reason I thought Biggie wrote it - its a similar line to the one from Brooklyns Finest (If Fay had twins she'd probably have 2 Pacs)

oh yeah of course, anyone who thinks different probably thinks "Long Kiss Goodnight" was just a "battle rhyme" LOL.....but hey Bad Boy denies all claims of ever talking about Pac on a record LMAO.....

Thanks for this, always had a crappy version of it.
Kool Keith: I wore a straw hat with a feather to the last Source Awards. When I got to Madison Square Garden everybody was looking at me. When I got back home I seen everybody and their mother in their video wearing a fuckinג€™ straw hat with a feather in it.

Tim Dog: ג€œWhat Kool Keith gonna wear? Iג€™m gonna do that shit in my video. Iג€™m gonna wear that shit really quick. Whatג€™s Tim Dog gonna wear?ג€

Im quite suprised by how popular this post was (on here and on my blog) - didnt think too many people would be interested in a Kim track.

I was getting a bit worried that at times this forum was becoming way too :bork: ed out but this has restored my faith

Mike B (one of Stretch Armstrong's homies I think) just left this comment on my blog regarding the 'original' version
(thee) Mike B said...

yo, so that "original version" is actually just a remix/blend that stretch armstrong did for his Back2Back mixtape, hence the phazing.

Stretch just left a comment on my blog ( :smugkid: :ohsh: etc) with some additional info on this
Stretch Armstrong said...

That's right Mike. This was just something that was a little more gully than the album version (of which there several versions floating around) for the Back2Back Mix that DJ Ev and I did. For the record, though, Kim DID write this song with some editing by BIG. Jay was hired to replace the Kim's verse where she was popping a lot of sh*t, and as a result, Puffy said the verse had to go. Remember, Atlantic, Kim's label, needed to be on Puffy's good side because the Junior MAFIA deal wouldn't have made much sense without the ability to get clearance for BIG from Bad Boy.
