Nas from 1994-1996

Post by Life Visualiza »

Nas from this period is the greatest emcee ever, his shit was sooo fkn nice. I was just listening to 'One on One' off the Street Fighter soundtrack and it sounds as good as anything on Illmatic...it coulda been on and wouldn't have made a difference.

<object width="420" height="315"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/6YgVZw4xHq8?ve ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/6YgVZw4xHq8?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="420" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

And this is also one of my favorites.

<object width="420" height="315"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/X4qYox-Gb70?ve ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/X4qYox-Gb70?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="420" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

Made in 96' but released in 2009.

I've heard he has shit with Method Man and GZA from 1996. I wonder if they'll ever be released. Woulda been ill.

Is this in reference to the "It Was Written" sampler tape that states Meth would be on it?

I've got it. Actually two of them, I'm pretty sure they're the same tapes but with different covers. It's on my list of things to rip in the next few days. Unless someone beats me to it.

I found some info and pictures about it here, but no d/l links:

and another decent Nas write-up here about all the shit in his vaults:
http://escobartheory.blogspot.com/2006/ ... aults.html

Another time Nas teased with promo tapes didn't even have a snippet to offer. To announce the coming of It Was Written, the rapper recorded Escobar Season Begins and distributed it to media outlets and mixtapes. Then, on that same sampler, advertisements also announced that IWW would feature appearances from Method Man and D'Angelo. At that point, with D'Angelo yet to run from the spotlight, Meth not needing to remind people he was still around, and Nas trying to bolster sales, the collaborations made sense, but we don't even know if they all actually made it to the studio.

Props.

I would have love to heard that shit with LES the Female Cop shit. I wonder if Large Pro would ever release that shit....Nas and Large Pro never made wack shit together. Everyone song they've ever done together is 5/5 shot.

. The one with the picture came with the Source magazine if you had a subscription. The other oine came with an it was written note book they were given to the record stores. Both tapes are exactly the same material. Ps there are several errors in that escobar theory blog. Ill have to break them down when I have time. I was a nas diehard collector back in the day and had everything in chronological discog down to even when freestyles dropped

Nas at this time is my favorite to ever do it, every single verse he spat on "It Was Written", "Illmatic" and everything in between is a lyrical masterpiece. he's still a monster on the microphone and he drops great songs every year but besides the joints with Premier and Large Pro he never made it to that level again. still one of the best however (btw, Large Pro also did a song with Nas called "Star Wars" that was supposed to be on "God's Son" but it got cut).

a while back i wrote a list of all the Nas guest features and b-sides or whatever from the years you mentioned. anything i'm missing? also if anyone needs any of these let me know and i'll upload.

Main Source - "Live At The BBQ" (Ft. Nasty Nas, Akinyele & Joe Fatal)
MC Serch - "Back to the Grill" (Ft. Nasty Nas, Red Hot Lover Tone & Chubb Rock) [both from 1992 though]

Nas - "Deja Vu"
Nas - "One On One"
Kool G Rap - "Fast Life" (Ft. Nas)
NaS - "Represent" (Original '93 Mix)
Raekwon - "Verbal Intercourse" (Ft. Ghostface Killah & Nas Escobar)
Mobb Deep - "Eye For An Eye" (Ft. Nas & Raekwon)
AZ - "Mo Money, Mo Murder (Homocide)" (Ft. Nas)
Large Professor - "One Plus One" (Ft. Nas)
Kamikazee - "On The Real" (Ft. Cormega & Nas)
Mobb Deep - "Give It Up Fast" (Ft. Big Noyd & Nas)
Allure - "Head Over Heels" (Ft. Nas)
DJ Hot Day - "40th Side Of Things" (Ft. Nas, Cormega & Sly Drama)
Nas - "Life is Like A Dice Game"
Nas - "Understanding"
Dr. Dre Presents Group Therapy - "East Coast/West Coast Killaz"
Foxy Brown - "La Familia" (Ft. Nas, Cormega & AZ)

ALTERNATIVE VERSIONS
Nas - "Street Dreams" [extended w. one new verse]
Nas - "Street Dreams [Trackmasters RMX]" (Ft. R. Kelly)
Nas - "Take it in Blood" [w. different lyrics]
Nas - "Affirmative Action Remix" (Ft. The Firm)
Nas - "Watch Dem Niggaz" [different 3rd verse]
Nas - "The Message" [w. original intro sample]

It was on the 2004 Illmatic rerelease's bonus cd along with the solo version of On the Real and some shitty remixes. Dope track, used the same beat as Large Pro's "Hip Hop".

You sure about I'm a villain?

I have a Hot Day and Supreme tape where they say Produced by Jay Supreme outloud over the song when it starts. Then he's like this is a song we did back in the day before Nas even had a record deal...etc..

Was gonna say the same shit, those remixes were fuckin awful, they should have used that space to put high quality versions of some of the demos there. Star Wars was a treat though, Large Pro used either that same beat or just the same Axelrod sample on his own 1st Class record too.

Not sure if you mentioned it yet, but K Def did a real tough remix of Street Dreams too.

Big ups Mike Nice... glad you're back and doin your thing again. But yo, you should look into that shit cuz honestly, "Villain" doesn't even sound like a Large Pro beat.

Btw Mike, Deja Vu was recorded in '95?, right?

What they shouldve done is put all the remixes from the 12"s on there - Q Tip mix of World Is Yours, Large Pro mix of Aint Hard To Tell, Arsenal mix of Lifes A Bitch etc - wouldve made a nice package (nh @ 'nice package' )

that's about what i thought it was gonna be when i heard it was gonna have remixes on it. Wow, I just heard that Arsenal mix for the first time i think right now, hah, its dope. That was one of those singles that i just never saw and was never aware of back in the day. When i saw it years later i assumed it was a boot or UK or Jap press or something like that. Didn't realize it was official with an official remix.

Anyhows, back in the day i played out the two Buckwild remixes, one of which i'll be happy to never hear again, i don't dismiss its greatness im just crazy sick of the sample...

this Buckwild one was always my favorite LAB remix by far:
<object width="420" height="75"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ft_MSngp2Yg?ve ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ft_MSngp2Yg?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="420" height="75" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

Whats other peoples' favorite Lifes a Bitch mixes and favorite One Love mixes?

For One Love, I go with One L with Sadat on the hook. Beat is so fuckin great.. those pianos, damn
<object width="420" height="75"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/isngk_rSf-0?ve ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/isngk_rSf-0?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="420" height="75" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

not to take anything away from the LG mix though, he hooked that shit up lovely

Verge, the Arsenal mix of Life's A Bitch is great, didn't hear it for years until recently. The Illmatic anniversary edition was lame to not include all the remixes and maybe even a bunch of freestyles.
Kool Keith: I wore a straw hat with a feather to the last Source Awards. When I got to Madison Square Garden everybody was looking at me. When I got back home I seen everybody and their mother in their video wearing a fuckinג€™ straw hat with a feather in it.
