Tracks where artists use another artists flow

Post by stype_ones »

Was thinking of writing a blog on this topic. Can we get a list going? Sometimes it's just a few bars, sometimes a whole track.

For example:

Ghostface Mighty Healthy = Divine Force Holy War

Roc Marciano Ridin Around = Lord Finesse from You Can't Front

Bigge Notrious Thugs = Bone Thugs

I have a few that come to mind that I happened to be listening to last week, I have some by more recent artists and a few from back in the days:

Recent: Virtuoso flowin like Big Pun on "Final Call of the Barbarians" by The White Shadow of Norway

Mobb Deep flowing like 50 Cent on Blood Money

Back In The Day: Chi Ali flowing like A.G. on 1992's "No Surrender No Retreat", I'd even go so far as to guess A.G. wrote the whole damn song for him

To me Godfather Don, King Sun and Too Poetic seemed to borrow Rakim's flow which he displayed on Let The Rhythm Hit Em sometimes back in the day, I don't know whether others tend to hear that as well.

Lil Fame of M.O.P. flowin like Kool G Rap on "The Hill That's Real" compilation

Which version of Children's Story? Who used the flow before Slick Rick?

Would Nas' Stillmatic freestyle count or Cormega's Realmatic? 'You coming at me using Rakim's rhyme flow.'
Kool Keith: I wore a straw hat with a feather to the last Source Awards. When I got to Madison Square Garden everybody was looking at me. When I got back home I seen everybody and their mother in their video wearing a fuckinג€™ straw hat with a feather in it.

Tim Dog: ג€œWhat Kool Keith gonna wear? Iג€™m gonna do that shit in my video. Iג€™m gonna wear that shit really quick. Whatג€™s Tim Dog gonna wear?ג€

Actually, Black Rob's Thug Story but it's really just a Children's Story remake.

I don't know if you mean emcees who purposely bit in a tribute type way or were just biting. I guess its hard to tell sometimes either way.
Anyways, don't get me wrong, I love this beat, but I'll be damned if these dudes weren't trying to sound like Camp Lo:

Will Smith (I mean The Fresh Prince) completely abandoned his high pitched style and tried to channel Rakim's flow on 'Summertime'

I thought Rakim wrote that, I forget, but who did write it?

I was thinking more of the Black Star song but one could argue its also more a concept remake then a flow homage.

Lil Kim doing Biggie on that Queen Bitch track?
