The Prunes [DK]

Post by Architek »

I know these guys don't get much love (or any at all) in here but, whatever. It's one of my all time favorite groups and i felt like posting a bunch of rares and feats i've gathered through the years.
What follows is material the Prunes produced or remixed that is hard-to-find or appears on non-Prunes releases. As you'll see their downfall began after 1996-97 (surprise surprise). Still, i think there's always a rare kind of quality hidden behind their productions plus some super dope post-97 tracks that are not included here.
I threw 3 blends i've put together too - cause MC's slept on the monstrous beats of their peak era. Nothing special though, i'm not a pro. Same goes for the cover art.
(I'm not positive all 3 of them pictured below are members of the group, if not then fuckin  )

Tracklist:

01 - AL AGAMI | Damm (who gots tha loot) from "Covert Operations" LP, 1993. Their first official release afaik, as Tha Prune Bros.
02 - BEASTIE BOYS | Root Down (Free Zone mix) from "Root Down" EP, 1995
03 - BEASTIE BOYS | Sure Shot (Prunes mix) from "Sure Shot" single, 1994
04 - DJ NOIZE | A Jazzy Delivery from "The Whole Mess" LP, 1997
05 - DJ KRUSH feat. BLACK THOUGHT & MALIK B | Meiso (The Real Version) from "Meiso" single, 1996
06 - THE PRUNES | Fine Festival from "Bread, Butter & Beats" & "Amsterdam Smokers" compilations, 1996
07 - CLEMENS | Strandvasker from "Regnskabets Time" LP, 1997. Danish lyrics.
08 - CLEMENS | Fanget Af Fortiden from "Regnskabets Time" LP, 1997. Danish lyrics but dope beats. A great piano loop for J-Selectah's piano series.
09 - DJ VADIM | Conquest Of The Irrational (remix by The Prunes) from "Conquest Of The Irrational" EP, 1997
10 - THE PRUNES | Cantona Style from "Headz 2A" compilation, 1996
11 - THE PRUNES feat. YB | Theme Pt. 2 (Funk Of 40,000 Years) from "Tracks From The Darkside Vol.2" EP, 1996
12 - THE PRUNES | Scorpio from "Pizza King OST" promo EP, 1998 or 1999

I really dug Tracks From the Darkside, some really dope beats on there. Also, from playing Jet Set Radio, the remix of this song was my shit.

Tracks From The Darkside is real dopeness, I still give this album a listen every now and then. I've been searching for an original cd copy for a couple of years but every time I find it on discogs the price is too high for me.
Big up for the compilation, I'd be really grateful if you could up some more dope DK albums. Creative, Copenhaniacs, Detail, Boulevard Connection, I'venever heard anything from them...

I've always enjoyed their Beastie remixes, but never knew anything about them. It's a shame that those 8 Intermission tracks were only on the vinyl.

Old, but decent read here:

Nice post. Thanks for the share.

atlantiswasreal thanx bro, that was a GREAT response

Brokewax i agree, the remix for "Rockin The Mic" is one of their best post-97 productions. Here's the whole EP, it's not rare but i've never come across it on the web.

Kartman, here's what i have for you:

Our philafellas Jankz & Andyman187 have taken care of Al Agami's "Covert Operations" and DJ Noize "The Whole Mess parts 1&2" respectively. Props.
http://www.olasunbekons.com/2010/06/al- ... nmark.html
http://rekordzonwheelz.blogspot.com/200 ... t-1-2.html

The Boulevard Connection & Copenhaniacs are productions teams, i found working links for their most popular works:
http://www.theundergroundcomeup.com/200 ... on-bw.html
http://www.theundergroundcomeup.com/200 ... -ep-x.html
DOPE, you gotta check em out if you haven't.

Detail's "Blue Eyed Soul" is one of the tightest european albums i've ever listened to. I'm quite surprised there's hardly any info on the web. Includes features of Creative, Boulevard Connection, Copenhaniacs and DJ Noize.

And, to those who aren't familiar with the Prunes' one and only full-length "Tracks From The Darkside", peep it here:

You need this shit in your life. I'm after the CD for years now but no luck too Kartman (i'm pretty sure the tracks have been remastered for the CD version)

Architek..... thanks a L O T :')

I'm pretty sure the cd has more tracks than the vinyl release, plus they got another album out in 2005, "Odd Jobs", with some unreleased and some new tracks. I can't find a link for that either...

Odd Jobs:
http://rghost.net/2893806
I don't think there are new tracks though, only rare ones & unreleased instrumentals of previously released vocal versions. Definitely worth checkin out too.

The "Tracks From The Darkside" CD was released later than the LP and has more tracks indeed, but there's always the (even more expensive) alternative of copping both Vol.1 & Vol.2 vinyls to have all tracks featured on the CD. What bugs me is the remastering factor, if it's true then i'm all for the CD.

I haven't seen him post here literally in years. He may have came back for a couple of weeks but disappeared again sadly. Here's his youtube account:

It doesn't look likes he's even been on there for a few months either.

Can someone please re-up the "tracks from the otherside" comp and "plot ep" with mediafire or something other than sharebeast, I keep getting errors regarding the inability to locate the source file. Thanks

That's strange Blakethought, works fine for me. I'll upload them tomorrow somewhere else but i'm not signed up to Mediafire. If someone with a Mediafire account is kind enough to do the dirty job that would be cool cause it's the best.
