Something Serious VS. Fadanuf Fa Erybody

Post by chiefbombpro »

(Inspired by Geto Boys thread in M2C)
2 lesser known Rap-A-Lot releases from '94.

Big Mike hit it hard. Fresh off his stint with The Geto Boys, this album had that real polished southern funk production. A couple of well used dusty samples. Producers included, Michael Banks, Mike Dean, N.O. Joe & Pimp C. Big Mike spit straight forward southern style. A lot less controversial than his Geto Boys or Convicts material It worked well though.

Odd Squad had more of a Boom Bap approach. More dusty samples and loops. Producers include DJ Styles , Mike Dean , N.O. Joe & Rob Quest. This album was all about weed, beer and pussy. Not a bad combination, at all.

Compare and discuss.

I will have to go with Big Mike - Something Serious. I used to give that album a ton of spins.

Damn, tough choice.
As far as content & production values go, "Somethin' Serious" is the best of the bunch.
But the fun factor on "Fadanuf Fa Erybody" is so amazing it can't be denied, so it really depends on the mood.

Fadanuf is my fave release on Rap-a-Lot. I remember reading an article on the label in 98/99 and it was talking about them being in the process of recording a second album - guess it never happened?

Fadanuf.... is my favorite RAL release as well. I'm just the only one in my circle that thinks this. Which is the reason I started this thread. Thanks y'all. I no longer feel alone in this opinion.
