Good shit, thomasv. But yo, are you goin by the name Beat Bop Scholar now? Just curious.

As for "Back To The Grill", I first heard of an unreleased version in Ego Trip's Book Of Rap Lists back in 1999 or so. I heard that T-Ray and/or MC Serch are the only people who have the unreleased version in their vaults. I hope to be able to hear it someday...

Nice video Beat Bop Scholar, I appreciate hearing Percee's stories and that cassette which I don't have. Hopefully that unreleased version of Back To The Grill comes out soon.

Thanks Thomas, good work! Everytime i ever spoke to Perce, in the midst of trying to sell his tapes(then CDs), he would always have another story I never heard about.
I always thought it was the remix that he dropped a verse for that wasn't used. Maybe both?

Eh, more shit for hopefully a decent label to get to the surface in 12" format.

thanks for doing this interview, great shit.. always dope to hear stories like this. man Akinyele, Nas, Serch and Percee P on the "Back to the Grill" beat. i wonder why Serch changed it, i'd take that line-up over the final one easily.

anyone know what Percee P is up to now? besides a few cuts i haven't really heard much about him since his Stones Throw album

NICE! This is what a lot of his aging fans were wanting when he instead did the album with Madlib. Not taking anything away from Lib, he's obviously a modern day legend producer, but a lot of us really wanted to hear a Percee P album with DITC. Hopefully Diamond laces him lovely, too bad Buckwild or Showbiz or Finesse aren't contributing.
Thanks for the info, I'll be eagerly awaiting this.

Here's that recent video you mentioned, pretty dope:

WOW, that's absolutely incredible news.. Diamond D is still top 5 dead or alive in my book, like the shit he did for J-Love, Trinity (Sadat/AG's "Time is Now"), the Collective Efforts joint and "Deflate 'Cha". still got it for sure!! Percee on a batch of beats of that quality and it's a classic on its releaste date.

Diamond and Perce is in no way a guaranteed good album though. You never know what you're gonna get with D nowadays. Lets not forget Huge Hefner and Grown Man Talk.

Now if Diamond busts out a bunch of bangers he never used in the 90's, on some Buckwild/CelphTitled shit, then that's something I'd be enthused about.

Someone tell them to do that please. That would sell well, relatively, and finally appease the old head Perce fans.

I liked a couple of tracks on Grown Man Talk, although at least one was a recycled track.
Kool Keith: I wore a straw hat with a feather to the last Source Awards. When I got to Madison Square Garden everybody was looking at me. When I got back home I seen everybody and their mother in their video wearing a fuckinג€™ straw hat with a feather in it.

Tim Dog: ג€œWhat Kool Keith gonna wear? Iג€™m gonna do that shit in my video. Iג€™m gonna wear that shit really quick. Whatג€™s Tim Dog gonna wear?ג€

while i agree with Diamond having dropped a lot of clunkers this side of the millennium, i feel that the vast majority of those are found on his own albums. like you mention "Grown Man Talk" (tho i thought, the lyrics were a much bigger problem there tbh) and "Huge Hefner...", but we gotta remember on there, Diamond has total control, while on a Percee P album, Perc can just say no thanks to anything not up to par with what he's aiming for on the LP. all the songs i mentioned in my previous post, is stuff that i feel holds the same quality as the illest Show, Buck or Finesse beats today, if not better.
