Rare Album Samplers/Advances

Post by itzmurda »

Samplers are the source for many exclusives, original versions, and tracks that were cut from the final version of the album. Here are a few that are worth discussing (if you have any, please feel free to contribute):

Available for download

Sorry man, only for a few. But I did include links to the "Capital Punishment" sampler and the "It Was Written" sampler. The "Power of the Dollar" sampler is down apparently.

However, I am soon to acquire the Nas/Nature sampler, so I should be ripping/uploading that when I get it. I also included ebay links in case anyone else is interested in picking up a few to rip as well (not expecting that, but who knows).

This thread may cause a few people to actually seek out and find some of these rare tapes to share (and also post a few that they already are in possession of). We'll see how it goes.

Was the Big Pun track featured on the Loud sampler tape given with an issue of XXL (the first?) the same version of the Player track?
Kool Keith: I wore a straw hat with a feather to the last Source Awards. When I got to Madison Square Garden everybody was looking at me. When I got back home I seen everybody and their mother in their video wearing a fuckinג€™ straw hat with a feather in it.

that version of Happiness is so much better, imo. I know i have it on an hd somewhere, recently threw it on a CD, but don't know where it originated from. It might have been engineered by Dj Nastee i think.

There's one of these for Big L's Big Picture LP, one for D.I.T.C.'s Worldwide / Self Titled LP and this one I just found out about a little while back:

You is right Verge - Heavy D put Gruff on...What up with the h2o related material DJ Nastee wanted to hook up?
If not make it a No Sleep Release since the 12th Block is on Cellar Sounds 3 anyways.

Thanks for creating the thread itzmurda, I've been looking for more sampler tapes and those ones you posted I don't have. LOUD was really generous with their amount of promo material back in the 90's.

Here's a slideshow of my collection at Flickr. The rarest one I think is between the Prince Paul and the Trackmasters sampler cassette

Nah, that's Gruff. For sure man. The last four tracks (Gruff Express, Before We Start, This is How We Do and Stop It) are from McGruff's first (and only) LP, Destined to Be, on Uptown / Universal, released the summer of '98, after Heavy D got him signed the year before. There's a couple joints on there but he was kinda talked into doin' what the label wanted.

The remaining songs on the sampler are from Waterbed Hev. You Can Get It, I'll Do Anything, Can You Handle It (featuring McGruff and The Dogg Pound), Wanna Be a Playa and Get Fresh Hev.

But yeah, I didn't know there was a '97 cassette sampler with McGruff on it 'til fairly recently.

I have this Dice Raw cassette sampler. I have no idea what's on it since it's still sealed. No tracklisting on the back.

Cool thread!

My girlfriend surprised me with this promo tape she found last October:

https://twitter.com/#!/Chazraps/status/ ... 9444260864

(couldn't get it to embed)

This thread reminded me that when I'm back in MN next month, I need to rip it from the cassette.

Yes. I have this "Archives" (bootleg) Loud Unreleased and it has Dead Prez - Food, Clothes, and Shelter (og version) on it. The tits of the record for me is Xplicit's "Fly Shit". ANd Cella Dwellas Return Of Jane is pretty great too.

there's also this boot vinyl that probably is the exact sampler tape you're talking about, i dunno though:

I actually didn't know about either of those comps you linked to Verge, the one I meant was called Loud Summer or something, can't remember now, it had a red cardboard cover and I think Mobb Deep's Hoodlum was one of the first tracks on it. Speaking of Dead Prez though, I always wanted an instrumental for These Are the Times, that was a great beat.

Nice tape battlecat, I'm sure people livin in the South probably had more access to getting that sampler than others.

I look forward to hearing that McGruff and Dead Prez material from sampler tapes if it turns up here.

I found this one while digging through my bedroom this morning, forgot I had it. This is one tape by Rawkus, one side is the sampler for Mos Def and the other Pharoahe.

That Cuban Linx sampler tape is nice, it's cool to hear skits between Ghost and Rae that you don't hear on the album plus that freestyle over Mad Izm. I sold my copy to someone on the Wu Tang Corp forum about a year ago.

Does someone want to do a CD sampler thread as well, or should we post CD samplers here? I'd like to see what people have.
