OCM - The Next Level LP (1994, Qwest) - Promo-only

Post by Debonair_P »

OCM were a NJ group who released a pretty dope independent 12" 'Joint Yo' in 1993. They were then signed to Quincy Jones's Qwest label and recorded the album 'The Next Level' in 1994. The album has a very west-coast feel to it and some of it is pretty badly dated ('Hip to the Level of Hop'!?). It does have a couple decent songs on there though.

Like nearly every other hip hop release on Qwest, this one was barely released and only came out as a promo tape and LP. I traded my copy of the wax a little while back, but here's the dub I made of it in 320k. I think only tape rips have been available previously.

Nice, never heard of this.

wonder if there's any QD3 production on there, if it was Quincy Jones's label?

Pretty sure it was all produced by the group. It's an interesting question though - I can't think of anything QDIII did on Qwest after like '91 or so... maybe he got sick of people thinking he only got work because of his father.

The link still seems to work for me. Anyone else having trouble with it?

Whats the point of making files in 320? It just takes up more space, sounds the same as 192. Only clueless idiots think the sound is better.

any chance you could re-up this in 64kbps for that authentic bootleg sound? :)

this is pretty good. expect your right about not having QD3 beats, none of them sound like his work. 'Mental' is the standout for me...
