The early 2000's (late 90's), crazy how fast time goes! For me personally it was the time where I really got into hiphop heavily. (Napster, Soulseek, Kazaa) Discovering all the stuff from the 90's through skate and graffiti videos. And while I was checking for Gang Starr, Lord Finesse etc. most of the good underground shit from that time passed by me.

I remember hating on a lot of shit at the time  but I kind of like to listen to those records now, because they remind me of my youth.

Some good examples (to me) are:
Screwball - Y2K
Mobb Deep - Murda muzik
Non Phixion - The future is now, the green cd
Alchemist - The cutting room floor
AG - The dirty version
Sean Price - Monkey barz
The UN - Un or u out
Infamous Mobb - Special edition
Freddie Foxxx - Industry Shakedown
DITC
Beatnuts

I'm kind of stuck on discovering new music from this era, so I'm basically asking for suggestions or tips on some good shit.
Over the years here at TROY I feel like I've/we've heard and found most of the good shit from the 90's including demo's, freestyles, and radioshows. But I've never seen a thread about good hiphop from this timeperiod and thought maybe this could be the beginning of a new spark in the TROY section!

Episode 8 is our Jansport (backpack) special. A tribute to the independent hip-hop movement that helped spawn labels like Fondle ‘Em, Hydra, Rawkus, Stones Throw, Def Jux and ABB records. A time, where the internet played a major role in the music. This era allowed people to DIY, giving them an outlet never had. This movement created dreams, jobs, life-long careers and of course, some amazing music too. Speaking of music, if we covered everything this episode would be 20 hours instead of 2. We picked obscure cuts all the way to classics heard from the late 90s to the early 00s. We got everybody from Mos Def, Company Flow, MF Doom, Murs, Planet Asia, J-Live, Juggaknots, Weatherman, Saukrates, Jigmastas, Cannibal Ox, L-Fudge, Godfather Don, All Natural, Non-Phixon, Cage, Latryx, Mr. Voodoo, K-Otix, and Vakill to name a few. You don’t want to miss this!

One time for ya muthafuckin mind..

I remember my cousin putting me on to this Beatnuts/Rasclaz collabo while driving me through Harlem in 2000. Along with those albums you listed it was like a breath of fresh air in the midst of mass materialism and the jiggy era.

I remember liking a lot of Jay Dee/Slum Village and Hi-Tek material of early 2G as well, plus the bootleg Mobb and Nas 12's that were circulating.

Exactly what I was looking for! Liked the talks in between. Totally forgot about some of these tracks J-Live, Cannibal Ox!! That Pharaohe Monch one from Soundbombing. Damn, guess I have to dig for these kind of early 00 compilations as well. Thanks!

And yeah Mobb Deep was my favorite around that time. Those grimey crime-related tracks, Alchemist in his prime. Love that whole QB vibe. CNN, Tragedy Khadafi, Screwball, Nature even 50 cents - Guess who's back mixtape had some good tracks..
On the other side the Jaydee/SV, Hi-Tek, Dj Spinna, Mos Def, Common.... Good shit!

I'm gonna drop some dope albums here in the future to get this thread going.

My early college years. Internet boom, indie hip hop was in full effect and shit was leaking super early. Miss the days of album advances with alternate mixes and deleted tracks. Bygone era
