PHD - Without Warning.

Post by John Bradshaw Layfield »

Anyone know this album?

For those who dont, these cats are some of the O.G's of that raw Q.B thug shit.

Poet, who would later be a part of Screwball, and Hot Day (formerly Hot Day Dante) who is a very underrated producer who'd both been around since the late 80's combined to record this ridiculously slept on album as PHD. Poet and Hot Day. Geddit?

PHD "without warning" from very early 1993.

Classic cover. Poet holdin' two berettas and Hot Day flexin' with an ak47 while standing by a cop car.

And the music lives up to the cover. Poet rhymes about all sorts of trifeness and takes some shots at his old nemesis Krs One whilst Hot Day serves up some hard early 90's beats. It even features a pre-jail Cormega on the track "set it off".

Key tracks would be "im flippin'", "darkside", "set it off", "pandemonium", "the showdown", "a night to remember" and "snakes in the grass", although it's a consistent album all the way through.

If you like hard, nasty, violent rap and are a fan of Screwball you will love this album. It recently got reissued so there is no excuse not to own it.

Very dope album, Poet's style was way ahead of its time on this one.

Definately.

Poet has always been a favorite of mine. He just comes across as a real nasty but humorous bastard.

From the 5 tracks that have dropped already, his upcoming solo album on Primo's Year Round label should be a banger. Hopefully it'll be as good as the first Screwball album.

"..Throw the mask on and stick yall niggaz
then act like "yo, who stuck yall niggaz?".."

I'll take Poet talking about beating people to death with kitchen utensils over some gay Kanye West positivity any day.
