Brooklyn:

Whodini
Big Daddy Kane
Biggie
Jay-Z
Masta Ace
O.C.
Beastie Boys
All of Boot Camp
Digable Planets
M.O.P.
Special Ed
Chubb Rock
Jeru
Gang Starr
Smoothe da Huslter & Trigger tha Gambler
Mos Def
Jemini the Gifted One

Obviously countless others.

I was expecting this to be very close between Brooklyn and Queens.

Kool Moe Dee says your ghetto pass is revoked for naming those people above him as your examples of Manhattan MCs.

I could've sworn Moe Dee was Brooklyn. In fact, I checked online to confirm it before I made that little list up there. I'll take your word for it though.

I thought Kool was from Brooknam too, but maybe I an wrong. Who else would you put in there from Harlem?

i'm positive moe dee is from harlem.

the treacherous three, crash crew and fearless four were from manhattan. can ox is another harlem act.

as for that brooklyn list, one of the beasties is manhattan-born right? "i was born on the l.e.s. manhattan island" but i guess that's nitpicking... gza and other wu people were born in brooklyn but that's not what they're id'd with.

but me and thun were just talking about digable planets a few weeks ago. even though they adopted brooklyn on their 2nd album (after a very greenwich village debut) i think only one of them was actually from the borough.

if it's on the internet it must be true:

Digable Planets formed in the early '90s, when Butterfly (b. Ishmael Butler, Brooklyn, NY) met Ladybug (b. Mary Ann Vieira, Silver Springs, MD) while attending college in Massachusetts. The two later hooked up with Doodlebug (b. Craig Irving, Philadelphia, PA), in Washington, D.C., and began recording.

Would Gangstarr count as Brooklyn since Primo is from Texas and Guru from Boston?

How does Gang Starr not count as Brooklyn? I think they should even though it's well-known that neither of them lived there until they were like 20.

I voted Queens though on the strength of Nas and ATCQ and Mobb Deep. That alone would cancel out almost every other city you think of.

Wow, I didn't even realize I had put him on there. Chalk it up to sleep deprivation and my listening to Operation C.B. as I made the list.

Gang Starr absolutely counts as Brooklyn.

Gotta go with Queens:

Pharaohe Monche
Prince Po
ATCQ
Cormega
Mobb Deep
Nas
Tragedy (?)
Busta Rhymes
Large Pro
Beatnuts
Marley Marl
MC Shan

Add AZ and Talib to Brooklyn

QU barely edges out LI just for the fact that Nas is my favorite rapper and Tribe is my favorite group. But the talent in Queens is mad deep.
