illest use of the Funky Drummer break?

Reminisce about the golden era of hip-hop.

illest use of the Funky Drummer break?

Post by Jaz »

Hands down for me

Eric B & Rakim-Lyrics Of Fury...Never have i heard it sound so sinister and the compression on it is so ill and Rakim just fucking kills it.

Yep
definately "lyrics of fury"
it really doesn't get much better
top 3 of all time for me
the two that come closest are :

"mama said knock you out"

"rebel without a pause"

and a special shout for "the moment i feared"
which never really gets the props it deserves

Aiight
best usage of "synthetic substitution" ?
this is a lot harder..

"ego trippin'" ?

"code of the streets" ?

"dwyck" ?

"real niggaz don't die" ?

"bring da ruckus" ?

"mighty healthy" ?

"mi uzi weighs a ton" ?

"don't believe the hype" ?

"just rhymin' with biz" ?

It's between one of them for me
but which..shit
i can't call it

I'm almost positive that I distinctly hear "Syntehetic Substitution" mixed w/"Impeach the Pres" on "Code of the Streets."

Anyway, my fave "Funky Drummer" usage is probably Ase's "Boom Bashin'" 2 Live's "Coolin" or Ren's "Quiet on tha Set."

Let's add "Impeach the President" to the list:

GangStarr - "Code of the Streets" (Unless I'm wrong)
B.I.G. - "Unbelievable"
EPMD - "Hardcore"
Now, if U listen, I'mma tell ya'.

I'm pretty sure "code of the streets" is just "synthetic substitution"
i would listen to it to check
but i'm at my parents for Xmas currently

I concur with "unbelivable" as one of the best uses "impeach the president"
alongside "headbanger"
"wu tang clan ain't nuthin' ta fuck wit"
"bloody money"
and, of course, the ridiculously hard Paul C freaked use of "impeach.." on "do the james"

word to all of these..... I have always been a big fan of the way Vance Wright compressed the Impeach drums for Slick Rick's" "Moses" and "'It's A Boy" and never forget Super lOver Cee and Cassanova Rud's "Do The James" (Prod Paul C) when speaking of these world famous drums.

My top choice for best use of Mr Bliss's legendary track...It was not an easy decision but I think -NWA-"Real Niggaz Don't Die" (Prod Dr Dre)

i always liked the funky drummer used on spring again

as for 'ss'...yoke the joker and ya mama are both super dope usages

tho its hard to argue against anything being better than it on code and especially do the james...paul c somehow improved on the original...shit is ridiculous
