how slept on is the hustler (smoothe)?

Post by Bring Back The Tempo »

i was just reminded how dope this dude is when i popped in blahzay blahzay's album and "danger part 2" played. seriously, dude is has one of the rawest voices in rap and has insane wordplay that'll make brewin' blush with envy. he freaks the backwards style ("cuz I freak it backwards, backwards is how i freak it) flawlessly. and before non-phixion's "cult leader", smoothe was lacin' it on "broken language". for some reason, i could see him form a duo with larry o over k def beats rapping about the mafioso, dolla billz, and heists better than any current rapper running those topics. pick up "once upon a time in america" if ya haven't, noodles.

i'm still mad at Def Jam over that to this day, fuck them for shelving mega and trigger. life's a 50/50 gamble is a pretty nice album. bust is the joint and i still remember the dope video for it in the roller rink. classic shit for real. i wish i could get my hands on a good quality version, not the wack copy of a tape rip that's online...

smoothe and trigger made a little comeback with ice t. too bad both versions of their SMG lp were wack as fuck, shit coulda been really dope...

"Broken langugage" is a straight up classic joint
"fuck whatcha heard", "glocks on clock", "murdafest", "my brother my ace" and "dollar bill"
back when D.V Alias Khrist was being touted as the east coast Nate Dogg
were also my joints.

Anyone ever hear the S.M.G (Smoothe, Ice T & Trigger) album?
what's it like?
they were dope live.

The 12" Blahzay Blahzay released in 2000
"ice grillz"
was the best track they ever did.

He was dope. I thought he was on a novelty flex at first but I still really rate the tracks he's on.

Love the Smoothe album. He shouldn't have done that SMG shit - i heard some and it was wack. To be honest - i only listened once but... I dunno, the whole think reeked of cheapness. Really half-arsed.

He's like Scaramanga - he could make a comeback flipping the same 'street' topics but still have appeal across the board.

This just inspired me to dig out the cassette I have of this LP. I'd definitely welcome a return of The Tologist Without The Derma.
