Has anyone checked this book yet? I just ordered mine this morning.
The author interviews several artists on the creative process of making what are now considered to be, classic albums.
To me, it sounds just like watching a DVD commentary with the director or reading a Roots album liner notes.

anthems from top to bottom
but, christ, the cover really is an eyesore
and George Dubose (or whatever his name is) was usually so on point too.

Yeah, I haven't seen it for ages either.

There was this big hoo-hah before it launched when loads of people bought subscriptions, before the first issue had even come out. Actually, I don't think they'd even started writing the first issue, and they were already taking peoples money. Months and months and months went by and people were screwing. They weren't answering emails or phone calls. Then it finally arrives and they stop making it after what, 6 issues?! Cheeky bastards.

I actually had a subsciption for Big Daddy because the only two places i've seen it here were Sandbox and in Fat Beats and it tended to fly off the shelves but they gave me my money back when it went belly up
i ordered the Hear No Evil cd's from them too and then, outta the blue, they sent me a promo cd of the Ivory "Zulu beat" mix..the one with all the electro and Kraftwerk joints mixed with funk and rock breaks made in tribute to the old Afrika Islam Zulu Beat radio show
not sure why they did that but i'm grateful they did.

I'm glad i didn't get another subsciption now though
this waitin' a year for an issue shit isn't what's up.

Grand Slam is offically no more. I spoke with one of the guys who made it yesterday. That Zulu Beat CD is great as well.

OK, this book is great. I flew down to Florida last week and read it on the plane.
I actually e-mailed the author last night telling him that I read his book on a plane and wished I could listen to each album after finishing every chapter.
He e-mailed me back and said his second book on 90's albums should be out this December.
Anyone else read it? I highly recommend it.

im 28 and as much as i love and respect the old school 80's hiphop, i really cant wait to see this book eventuate.

the 90's (specifically early to mid 90's) was when my love for the shit really took off.
