Is there a better 12" than The Show / La Di Da Di..?

Reminisce about the golden era of hip-hop.

Is there a better 12" than The Show / La Di Da Di..?

Post by Career Over Like Mike(NJJ) »

No there isn't
unless you have a better suggestion, that is.

Criteria here it has to be a double-header ( two songs on one 12")
and that the songs didn't appear on an album.

So, anyway, "the show" and "la di da di" 12"
both are the epitome of what a classic rap song is
from the quality of both songs
to the timeless factor
to the fact they've been sampled, jacked, bitten and interpolated to death.

Only other 12" i can think of that could compare is "love rap"/"new rap language" by Spoonie Gee
but i'd still take Doug E. Fresh and Ricky D over Spoonie
and that's comin' from a huge Spoonie Gee fan.

I really can't think of a 12" from the 90s like this because rap had become album based by then
"protect ya neck"/"method man" is disqualified here because both cuts were on "36 chambers"
the Biggie 12" for the "big poppa" remix/"who shot shot ya?" is the closest i can come up with
but, as much as i like the remix, it's hardly classic
however if "one more chance" remix had been on a 12" with "who shot ya" then it would be an entirely different story.

Thoughts..?
or/and just give props to "the show" and "la di da di".

The only really dope 12" from the nineties that I can think of right now with no album cuts is Big Red's "Created A Monster / How They Want It," but that ain't coming anywhere close to the importance of Rick and Doug. The original version of "Flowers" with "The Watch" on the flip is great too, but no real importance there either.

There's that Percee P 12" with "puttin' heads to bed" and "lung collapsing lyrics" on it (as well as that wack joint "now they wanna see me")
that's a rather 90s good 12".

Anyway, the original studio beatbox version of "treat her like a prostitute" is better than the version on "great adventures..".

De La Soul "Plug Tunin" b/w "Change in Speak"?

The original Plug Tunin wasnt on 3 ft high (until later they included it)... and Change in Speak wasnt on any album

Do songs from soundtracks count?

Public Enemy - Fight the Power
Big Daddy Kane - Lean on Me
BDP - Jack of Spades
Eric B & Rakim - Know the Ledge
ATCQ - Hot Sex

Common - Bitch In Yoo
Mobb Deep - Shook Ones (the first one)

although no where near the level of Get Fresh Crew, De La etc... ill just mention this cuz its a dope 12"

Erule - Listen Up b/w Synopsis

with all those said... i wouldnt trade La Di Da Di for any of them... just throwing those into the mix

Do a lot of people think The Show> La Di da Di?
because I love La Di da Di a lot more than the Show.
Both incredible tracks, and you can't go wrong with either, just want to see if I'm in the minority or not.
