BoogieMonsters - Riders of the Storm: Underworld album

Post by Magneto »

I bought this when I was like 16, I thought the tape was ill, but I took it back anyway cause I wanted to buy something else. I got most of the album on my PC, but I'm still missing atleast 4 tracks. I just posted this to give props to this group, cause they dropped a lot of ill shiit that went unrecognized. One of the members is on some other shit now, but fuck it. They did their thing at the time.

Ahhh they were OK. In some spots they sounded very NYC derivative. I like the other album more.

Yes, indeed they were underrated....

I had to dig up the track Mark of the Beast in honor of 6/06/06

both mark of the beast tracks were extra solid. some of my fave work by then. they had a very distinct sound and while many cats enjoy both albums i awould have to say that the second had a bit of a more underground feel to it which is why more people choose it. but riders was the truth. had a beautiful vibe through it

riders of the storm is a great album and in my top 5 all-time...

their 2nd lp had a few good songs (i can't front i still got the cd single for "beginning of the end" and still bang that shit) but the rest was trash.

and vex or mondo is on some crazy christian rap tip now but like mags said fuck it. that doesn't take anything away from their dope debut jawn.

That could be because they're from the Bronx.

This deserves a mention in the "albums that need to be remastered" thread in M2C.

A great record...but it's the ...Underwater Album, not Underworld.

It's one of a handful of albums where I can remember the circumstances of its purchase. I'd seen the video for "The Recognized Thresholds of Negative Stress" and I thought the whiny "da da dah, da da dah, da dee da dee da deeyahhh" was fresh. So just before going on a trip to see a friend in Long Island, I copped the tape at "Nobody Beats" the Wiz for my walkman. On the way out there, I played it twice, and snuck away a bunch of times when I should have been hanging out with my friend to listen to it more (she wasn't down to hear it). It still gets fairly regular play today, for what it's worth.

The OG by far. That beat is sinister, hypnotic, and a list of other adjectives that describe moodiness.

i like this album a lot and though some of their music was a bit out there, this kind of daringness is sorely missed.

good record but i always thought it was highly overrated...for starters the recording level makes it difficult to listen too...much like digables albums

I mean, I don't see how it's overrated, when I have never seen anyone/heard anyone discuss it, ever.

Yes, I think this album can officially be considered "slept-on," but I will defer to Thun on the final judgement.

the album isnt exactly CPO 'to hell and black'...it is a very well known golden age album....and since this is troy i normally discuss things in the context of golden agers and whenever this record comes up amongst that crowd it very often gets hailed as a classic

perhaps theres a reason for that and im wrong...i just was never overly impressed with it...had a few great songs but was pretty vanilla after that and like i said the recording level angers me

it definitely needs to be remastered, but other than that it's all good...

Its just aight
very repetitive of the first album with a very midninties sound

They sound like a combination of Smiff-n-Wessun and Pharcyde on this album

If you can find it, it will probably be selling for five bucks or less. That's a pretty fair price for what it's worth.

They were one some Christian tip, but I still think the music was slamming.

Mark of the Beast is damned corny, but I dug it at the time because it was stark as hell. Plus that one dude's verse where he describes Satan raping the earth was fresh.
