Most Complete Hip-Hop LP (1992-1993)

Post by Philaflava »

I wanted to gather 10 albums that dropped during these two years and get an idea of what you feltl is the most complete off this list. Please don't suggest an album that isn't on here. You cocksucker mutherfucka, I'm only allowed 10 damn choices, so live with it. A breakdown as to why you felt your choice was the most 'complete' album would also be appreciated.

Midnight Marauders. I think I could honestly listen to this once a day for years and never get tired of it. It also contains one of my probably top 5 songs of all time, "Midnight."

The only one that really comes close for me is 36 Chambers, which I can't say really why it would be less complete. Maybe because I like it 1% less.

I really can't say that any of these albums are truly incomplete though.

Midnight Marauders might be my favorite LP from this time period, nevertheless, I think 36 Chambers is a more complete album. Both these albums are "complete" as far as beats, rhymes, creativity, etc. goes, but 36 Chambers is just too damn original and unique to be denied.

I'm truly stoked that someone else appreciates this song as much as I do. It is the hip hop epitome of understated brilliance.

Obviously Midnight Marauders is a fantastic record, but for me this came down to "93 Til Infinity" vs. "36 Chambers"...

In the end I voted for the kids from Shao Lin..

It was just such a hungry album.. What did they have, 5 singles/videos off of that (Protect, Method Man, Da Mystery Of Chessboxin, Cream, Can It Be So Simple) ?

This was just a landmark record.

If no one else votes, it will be 36% for 36 Chambers. A very appropriate proportion.

fuck, thanks for ruining it, whoever voted for krs one and black moon.

the poll top ten

1. mm
2. bizarre ride
3. wu-tang
4. enta da stage
5. daily op
6. buhloon
7. 93 til
8. mecca
9. boom bap

as for my top ten

Wow, I am suprised so many people voted for the Wu. That's a PHENOMENAL album/debut, no doubt. ATCQ made what is essentially a perfect album, though. Probably one of, if not the, most cohesive Hip Hop albums I have ever heard. Flows together so seamlessly.

Me too. They came from behind and really took it, too.

I had to give my vote to the underdog, Mecca & The Soul Brother. Mostly for nostalgic reasons, but that album is just as complete as any on that list. It's also just as unique, imo... even though on almost every song on the album, Pete Rock sampled the same artist... who is he...
