Ok, I've never heard that one... I think. Shit, I'm getting old.

Nice mix. Thanks for posting. I have a fair few of these tracks as regulars from my playout bag (not that I DJ very often at all any more).

What's the joint using the 'DWYCK' beat?

I have no idea if this is on this thread already, I found it on an old disc of stuff from various blogs from years ago:

edit-what beat is featured on the main track? I know it, but it just isn't coming to me.
Kool Keith: I wore a straw hat with a feather to the last Source Awards. When I got to Madison Square Garden everybody was looking at me. When I got back home I seen everybody and their mother in their video wearing a fuckinג€™ straw hat with a feather in it.

Tim Dog: ג€œWhat Kool Keith gonna wear? Iג€™m gonna do that shit in my video. Iג€™m gonna wear that shit really quick. Whatג€™s Tim Dog gonna wear?ג€

No problem, Could You Be Loved is my favourite Bob Marley track, I can't believe it... Need to go re-listen. About the earlier posts, thanks for the tracks, but I think Sean Paul pretty much bit Supercat's whole style, rather than Supercat being the 90s Sean Paul, but I agree Supercat was the man.

yeah...Sean Paul was def influenced by the Cat. Super Cat was the origin-al. Cat was definitely NOT the 90's Sean Paul....SP is more a crossover/commercial artist, while Cat was more badman lyrics wit hip hop crossover. Cat had way more style and charisma...plus he actually lived what he sang about.

here's an interesting article on Super Cat....it's part 1, and you can google for parts 2 and 3. it was a good read

djfilthyrich, thanks for the links, I look forwards to reading them, I'm a huge fan of Supercat but like other similar artists, I prefer them over hiphop beats. Will try and post some more tracks in this thread soon, although I don't have that many. Wsup bbatson.

All (well, most) of those early Bomb Strikes releases are worth getting. Supacat Police is the only ragga influence one theyve done though. They've gone a bit too heavy on the squelchy bass noises recently but anything by Mooqee, A Skillz, Beatvandals, Featurecast etc is worth a go if you like those uptempo party breaks.
I did a mix with a lot of them on a little while back

Cool, thanks for the info, will have to check them out. Does anyone have a good rip of Louie Rankin's Typewriter, the original, not the remix? There were some comps on the TROY blog but the links were dead.

These mostly don't have hiphop beats, and are quite well known, but I thought I'd post them anyway, also some of the track titles maybe wrong:

Cutty Ranks: Going is Rough

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=LGG4JKA0

Shabba, Cocoa Tea : Pirates Anthem

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=1Q6IBH7F - had a much better rip but probably lost it

Shabba, Cocoa Tea, Rebel Princess : Just Be Good To Me

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=1CKCKFKQ

And just for the hell of it, Shabba and Maxi Priest's House Call VLS:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=6UMZETCX

I wish I had more Supercat, Cutty Ranks, etc over rap beats though, it makes for a great combination.

i agree...Super Cat & Cutty mesh really well over hip hop beats. i'm currently planning a 90's reggae hip hop mixtape series, and i'll be taking some Super Cat & Cutty Ranks acapellas and blending them over 90's hip hop beats. Some of them were never even hip hop mixes in the first place (like Cutty's 'Limb By Limb', 'Wah Dem A Watch We For", "Pon Pause" etc ---- and Super Cat's "Too Greedy", "Dance"....unfortunately there aren't too many more Super Cat acapellas out there....i only know of 4 in total)

I'll be looking forwards to your mixtapes.

Do you happen to know about the Supercat v Cutty thing? Was it just blown up out of proportion, as until I read that great link you posted about Supercat, I didn't know that people assumed that Cutty was taking shots at Supercat on A Who Seh Me Dun. Then the original version of Typewriter, Cutty mentions it kind of on Kill Dem, but it seems the beef is over by then (I think?), but it's strange he would reference a track that was meant to diss him.

@step: good catch step....i actually purposely left out that Limb By Limb one because i think it's kinda weak (i don't think the tone/feel of the vocals matches the beat), plus it always sounded a bit too much on the R&B side than hip hop in my opinion. wait till you hear the blend i'm thinking of doing with that acapella...it brings out the aggressiveness of the track more, and in my opinion sounds better than the original

@ shadowmaster:
i'll let you know once the 1st volume is done. i wasn't going to announce this till i actually started recording, but i guess i will now. i've been thinking about doing a 90's reggae-hip hop mix for awhile (around the time i started this thread), but never got around to doing it. At first the idea was just to make a 1 CD mix of my top 35 reggae-hiphop tracks, and then the idea changed to making a "party mashup/megamix-style" tape (using only the catchiest parts of songs, mixing in and out of tracks quickly, squeezing like 100 tracks onto 1 CD etc....kind of like the "Bits & Pieces" annual megamixes), then finally changed my mind a 3rd time and made the final decision to make more of what i call a 'collector's-style mix' for people who want to hear songs in most of their entirety (for the most part, i'll be using 2 verses and 2 choruses for each track), especially since some of these tracks are hard to find and deserve to be heard for more than 30 seconds.
The mix is going to contain 90's reggae-hiphop tracks/remixes, from popular ones like Super Cat 'Ghetto Red Hot RMX'/'Scalp Dem RMX' & Mad Lion "Take It Easy" etc, all the way down to more obscure remixes that came out on hard-to-find vinyl bootlegs/white labels), reggae-hiphop party breaks like Nubian Crackers, Kenny Dope, etc, and finally my own blends using strictly 90's reggae acapellas over 90's hip hop beats. Right now, i estimate it will be about 4 or 5 CD's long, and i'm still looking for more tracks to include.

originally, i was going to put it out for free using the tracks i already had. after talking to some friends about it, they persuaded me to charge for the mix, and use the money to buy more rare records/acapellas to put on the mix. in the end i agreed and began my hunt to search out those rare gems i've always wanted/heard about, and in the process discovered a bunch more that i'd never even heard before. because of it, i think the mix is going to be a better product.

i will be selling physical CD copies once it's done. the CD will have a colour cover and artwork on the disc). i'm spending a ton of dough on some rare and seldom heard records/acapellas, so i'll be selling the CD to offset the cost of making the mix (because i wouldn't personally wanna hear a mix that is going to cost me over $500 lol). but i assure you, anybody who is into 90's reggae-hiphop will want to own a copy, because of the rare tracks, hip hop blends of reggae tracks, and unique pieces that'll only be found on these mixes. i'm even trying to make my own AV8/Kenny Dope style party breaks just for this mix. unlike dj podcasts etc, this mixtape series is something that won't be rushed. thought is put into every track selected, song sequencing, and especially into every blend (ppl who've heard the free mixes i always give away on TROY can attest to the quality of my blends). i'll post some samples once it's done so ppl can get an idea of what the mix sounds like.

Also, if people want to suggest acapellas or beats they'd like to hear on this mix series, feel free to post here or PM me.
