oh yeah...i remember seeing this one but i passed on it since it didn't have the sound i was lookin for.....but thanks again batson. appreciate it. PM'-ing you now. i even tried to make my own DIY acapella of Ghetto Red Hot (using a rip of the CD single), but i'm not very good at creating DIY pellas since i don't really know what i'm doing. it's too bad we don't know anybody who's good at making DIY's. Ghetto Red Hot would be a really good one to use in a blend

A few more popular, well known ones:

Cutty Ranks -Kill Dem (spartan mix) - Again, I had a much better rip of this that seems to have gone missing.

Cutty Ranks- A Who Seh Me Dun

Cutty Ranks- A Who Seh- Dynamik Duo mix

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SL6YU1KQ

I prefer the original, but can anybody please tell me the beat used for the Dynamik Duo mix at around 2.17 min in? It reminds me of an Egyptian Lover track or something.
Kool Keith: I wore a straw hat with a feather to the last Source Awards. When I got to Madison Square Garden everybody was looking at me. When I got back home I seen everybody and their mother in their video wearing a fuckinג€™ straw hat with a feather in it.

yo send me the cd rip i can make DIY just fine. But not all of them work. Especially older stuff recorded to tape. Dolly My Baby didn't work. But I can definitely try to make it. I don't think i've seen the cd. Do you have the Super Cat and Heavy D - Dem No Worry We cd single? I wanted to try and make that but can never find it. I also want the remix instr in cd form. I've been checking ebay but never see it.

what method do u use to make your DIY's? inverting the waveform, mid-side, of removing audio frequencies?

Thanks bbatson, I know the tune / melody's been around for a long time, but I'm pretty sure I've heard it used on a hiphop / electro beat. Just need to figure it out.

I knew Egyptian Lover used it, couldn't remember exactly but Egyptian Lover used it on 'Egypt, Egypt'. The 12" has different drums etc, I'm wondering who else used that tune, or whether it was replayed.

i agree....his accent sounded really forced and bad.
his track 'Make Way for The Indian' with Tim Dog had a good beat and Tim was dope, but Apache ruined the song for me. he would've been better as a bhangra-hiphop artist

other reggae-hiphop artists with accents that bothered me due to their 'forcedness' were Ruffa, Blak Panta, Whitey Don, Kulcha Don, Skeeta Ranx, sometimes Don Jagwar etc

oddly enough i give Snow a pass, probably because his style was more singing instead of toasting, and it wasn't as noticeable.

a funny side article:

what other reggae-hiphop artists/tracks did u listen to Drayz?

yeah, he got a lot of press when he came out off the back of the 'OMG! An Asian!' factor, plus he had that song 'Arranged Marriage' which while also shit was a bit of a taboo subject at the time.

Am I wrong in thinking Snow was actually of Jamaican origin? Didn't MC Shan have something to do with him?

That article was quite funny, if only for the Miami Vice pilot clip at number 1, which I had never seen. It's the only clip I played, but it was great!

I always thought some of the villains in Marked For Death had some dodgy dialogue and accents, although probably not as bad as some on that list.

Snow was Canadian, think Shan produced or managed him. He probably made more off 'Informer' than he did off his own music

that list.
Snow is from Canada (irish parents). MC Shan did have a connection to him...here's a note from wikipedia:

In 1988, Jamaican-born DJ Marvin Prince witnessed O'Brien deejaying at a party and quickly, the two became friends. For the next few years, they practiced in Prince's basement with Snow providing vocals and Prince scratching the turntables. While on a trip to New York City, Prince mentioned Snow to rap star M.C. Shan. Shan then invited Snow to New York and introduced him to music producers, David Eng and Steve Salem. Snow eventually signed a contract to record on their Motorjam/Elektra record label and in 1993 released his debut album 12 Inches of Snow

Step One is right....he did make more money off of Informer than off his whole catalog. that song was the #1 selling reggae single of all time. the publishing money alone was insane.

Yeah, I think Shan had blown all his money on drugs and Informer was a nice little earner for him. I could've sworn I saw people mention Snow being from Jamaica, shows how much bullshit there is out there. I want to hear Shan's Informer verse, now.
Kool Keith: I wore a straw hat with a feather to the last Source Awards. When I got to Madison Square Garden everybody was looking at me. When I got back home I seen everybody and their mother in their video wearing a fuckinג€™ straw hat with a feather in it.

Haha, true. Sounds like the track was 10 minutes work, tops but that's why it somehow works (probably also why it got only one spin on an obscure 1am radio show)
