"As you may (or may not) recall, in the ג€™90s it was fairly common practice for popular dancehall singlesג€“especially ones by street-oriented artists like
Bounty Killer, Supercat and Louie Rankinג€“to be remixed by replacing the original dancehall riddims with familiar hip-hop beats,
theoretically enhancing the tunesג€™ crossover appeal in the States.

In a few cases, such as Salaam Remiג€™s mix of Supercatג€™s ג€œGhetto Red Hotג€ and Lil Jon & Paulג€™s (yes, that Lil Jon) twist on Capletonג€™s ג€œTour,ג€
these would go on to be the best known versions of these respective songs. More often, they simply became underground classics,
encapsulating a time when there truly was a great exchange of ideas between hip-hop and dancehall".

You weren't missing much - I foolishly copped this when it was released. It's got 2 or 3 decent tracks.

just discovered this obscure reggae-hiphop track from '99.
Mad Cobra ft Fu-Schnickens "Zoom Zoom". The combination isn't as good as you think it would be, but it ain't that bad either.
Unfortunately I don't have the track, but thought some people might want to check it out.

slowly putting in work whenever i find the time. right now i'm trying to finish pairing up acapellas with instrumentals (i have over 115 acapellas that i want to use....probably only have about 10-15 more acapellas left to match up. then the next step will be to find out how to create party breaks on ableton. plus i've been continually digging to unearth some obscure gems for my series of comps (just found a couple records last week). so that should give you an idea of why this process is taking so long.....it's a TON of work, but i think it'll all be worth it once it's finished. i can't wait to finally be done with this series lol. hoping to finish all volumes by the end of this year.

once the project is done, i'll announce it in this thread for anybody who's interested in picking up a copy

@ Jaz: i don't remember that 'Stir It Up' compilation having many good tracks on it

Thanks for the update and I know it would take ages, I was just hoping you were still doing it. I need more reggae/ ragga hiphop tracks, I go hunting once in a while but usually it ends in disappointment. I guess the lack of acapellas is a big factor.

Herban, could you re-up the Whitey Don album? If that's no trouble of course.

that's a good list, Jaz. I've been sidetracked from doing the mix for the past few weeks, but looking to get back into it again soon. i think i have another 15 or so acapellas to match up with beats, then i'll start piecing together all of the tracks....
