Essential Game Cube Games

Got a Wii and I'm too cheap to go spending 50 bucks a pop.

What's your top five or top ten GC titles?

You can probably find most games for 25 bucks or so used I'd imagine

As far as top 5, I know you've already played Viewtiful Joe and RE4

Eternal Darkness is a really good game I think you might like. You could get for 10 bucks or so since it came out when the Gamecube was released just about. It plays a bit like the old Resident Evils. Bloody and will fuck with your head.

Jungle Beat is awesome, you can probably get it and a Bongo for like 15 bucks. It's really really great. You won't understand till you play it.

Windwaker.

Metroid Prime, not sure if you'd like it though. You can get it really cheap so it's worth giving it a shot. Rewards patience. One of my favorite game experiences the first time I played it.

You'll probably like Killer 7, I haven't played it a whole bunch but opinions are mixed on it. Some think it's artistic brilliance some think it's too strange and disjointed for it's own good and weird for weirdness's sake. Can't say for myself since I haven't really played it. I should change that sometime soon.

Of all the Zelda games, Windwaker has to be the worst, though it has its moments of enjoyability. Twilight Princess is vastly superior.

Luigi's Mansion was cool.

^ Negative. I'd say Windwaker is the best 3-D Zelda actually. It's very easy though, and the Triforce finding part is a downer. Twilight Princess bored me aside from the awesome dungeons. Windwaker is mesmerizing to play.

I don't think Animal Crossing is Cas's kind of game. If you get it for your wife you might not see her for a few weeks though.

No interest in Animal Crossing.

Definitely want to try out that Killer 7.

Forgot about Eternal Darkness. Want to play it.

I'm not buying that bongo. Unless it's like a buck.

Gonna try Metroid Prime.

I'd add Viewtiful Joe to the list. It's pretty cool. Review here: -

I'd also highly suggest Pikmin 2.

Image

It's easy to pick up and play, but also very deep gameplay and strategy wise. Really fun to play, and has a brilliant concept and design. I'd recommend this before almost everything I mentioned before, because everything I mentioned before except Jungle Beat takes some fair investment of time (especially Metroid Prime). Pikmin 2 you can play for a half hour or an hour at a time and finish at your leisure. One of the very best games on Gamecube I'd say for sure. I'd also say to get this before Metroid Prime or get this as insurance in case you don't end up liking Prime.

I can see you really enjoying this one and Eternal Darkness. Not very confident in how much you'd like everything else mentioned in this thread aside from Killer 7 which is hard to recommend since I haven't really played it.

The premise of the game is you amass an army of Pikmin that are suicidally loyal to you and answer to your every beck and call. You manipulate and utilize them to advance through levels, overcome obstacles and recover "treasure". Here's a review that sums the game up pretty well in case you don't know what it's like:

I will take any suggestions.

Viewtiful Joe was great until it got so fucking hard no one on planet earth could beat it.

Bet my lady will love Animal Crossing and Pikmin 2 and Sunshine Mario etc.

I will play Killer 7 and Metroid and Eternal Darkness.

Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes (If you haven't played the OG Metal Gear Solid, you must play this game. Even if you have, its worth playing again because of the updated visuals and awesome new cut-scenes. Its all around a fantastic remake of the PS1 classic. People always overlook this game for some reason)

Metroid Prime (my favorite game of the past five years or so. but don't go in expecting a Halo-like FPS and fast-paced gameplay.)

F-Zero GX (really fast futuristic game. recently copped it for 7 bucks)

Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem

Pikmin 2

Battalion Wars (kinda like Pikmin but with guns. really annoying voice acting, but dope gameplay. sells for like 10 bucks now)

If you haven't played it on the PS2, get Beyond Good & Evil. I also like Zelda: Four Swords Adventures. It's worthwhile even without a GBA or someone else to play it with, though it's definitely better if you have those.

You should also post your Wii friend code.

all my gamecube games (about 15 of them), a few pc games (Half-Life 2 Holiday Pack, Medieval Total War, Myth II), my audio production software (Reason and Recycle), plus my laptop system restore dvd which can't be replaced.

It wouldn't have been a totally massive loss, but it was a big fuckin relief to get them back.

Yes, and for the love of god, please somebody else add me. Frank B will always have a place in my heart for being the only one so far. Just envision me checking forlornly every time I turn on my Wii. Even my own mom hasn't added me yet.

And I missed the Gamecube generation, so I have no good recommendations.

Killer 7 is gorgeous and creative and creepy and slow... So slow. Way too much loading.

Wario's World is awesome.

Metroid is ok. I can sense it'll get better with more guns.

Agreed. Traded in some Killer 7 and other stuff for this game. Fantastic. A couple times I've gotten very stuck and very frustrated (Twice now all 100 of my Pikmin died and I felt so bad) but it's such a great game. It's one of those games that's worth buying a system for. God Of War and GTA for PS2, Pikmin for Game Cube. Totally addicted. 60 percent done.
