i did a search, and didn't see a thread about video game music.

so, let's reminisce about some classic tunez.

i'll get it started with two old school favorites:

while looking for a frank frazetta montage I came upon this

and was interested in who was behind the song. after some research i discovered that there is a band called the mini bosses who are entirely devoted to doing rock renditions of 8-bit games. I can't remember if I ever explained this to the board or not in fear of being bombarded with yellow arrows and "faggot" comments but here you go.

FF 7 obviously. 12s opening theme song is really great.
2s themes are pretty sweet.

red dead redemption is just ESPECIALLY excellent since its one of the few games that allows for dead space.....and then just gives that ennio morricone-esque whistle....and then nothing. just great stuff

prince of persia has some really fucking cool music. the main theme for the first ps3 one is downright filthy and kind of reminds me of much of lawrence of arabias score in many respects. i just beat Sands of Time not too long ago and found myself wishing in many parts of the game that the soundtrack was more similar to the first ps3 Prince game

ps just watching this video reminds me of just how little you need to do to get through the game

assassins creed music and how they kept certain historically and culturally accurate musical norms/forms and used that shit to build a really beautiful and lush and immersive soundtrack is just excellent

Some really good choices on here. I definitely agree with the praise for the Mega Man series... most of the soundtracks are are some next level shit, but I especially love 2 and 3. Rotate through those as ringtones pretty often, even.

In recent stuff: Red Dead Redemption is definitely dope, but I think Infamous also deserves a nod. Half of the soundtrack is quality shit from Amon Tobin and the remainder still carries its own weight.

and was interested in who was behind the song. after some research i discovered that there is a band called the mini bosses who are entirely devoted to doing rock renditions of 8-bit games.
