crazy site popped up in the last week or 2 and has been spitting out various morris codes since. reddit users have deciphered them, coming up with coded messages which have then been deciphered to spell out a sort of conversation. it's believed this is an ARG for the new fallout, probably located in boston.

i've just gone back to fallout 3 to look at some of the backstory for what seems to be some continuous characters..

Fallout 4 Survivor 2299 hoax creator admits ‘I’m a douche’

The fan behind Survivor 2299 has confessed that the site is a fake and that he ‘wanted to force Bethesda to reveal something’.

It’s only playing a bit of piano music now, but up until the weekend the website thesurvivor2299 was displaying a countdown timer and what appeared to be a number of clues pointing towards a Fallout 4 announcement.

But now a fan has admitted that he’s the one behind the site and that he’s failed in his goal of trying to get Fallout publisher Bethesda to perform an official unveiling.

‘I wanted to force Bethesda to reveal something during VGX on 12/11, and bring /r/Fallout community together (for at least 3 weeks)’, he said on Reddit.

Needlessly to say this didn’t work and although Bethesda never referred to the site specifically they did go to the effort of confirming that they would not be a part of the VGX show on Saturday.

Although ‘DCHoaxer’ did go to considerable lengths with his hoax immediate suspicion fell on the fact that the site was registered in Poland and that its morse code clue used a European rather than American date format.

But the fact he continued to update even after these revelations still left some doubt and he had a CGI trailer all ready to go up when the countdown ended this Wednesday. This apparently he’ll still release via other means.

According to the Reddit AMA the whole hoax cost him $990 (£605), although £550 of that was setting up a fake phone number – which really is going above and beyond.

The question now of course is when Bethesda really will announce Fallout 4, since it’s still widely believed to be their next game.

That’s now very difficult to guess at as there are no major trade events until E3 next June, so if it does happen before then it’d have to be something Bethesda organise themselves. Perhaps even an official countdown site…
