Local Area Connection 2 Status: limited or no connectivity

there is an icon on my taskbar that never goes away. i dont know what it means, but i can assume it has something to do with my internet and transfer speed.

i havent noticied any issues with my internet connection and everything seems to be loading at normal speeds, but the icon annoys me, and i figure something must actually be wrong even if im not noticing it, so i decided to post this and see if anyone knew what was going on.

Thats your network status. It should always be there.

I guess it should always say limited to no connectivity too, right?

here is what it says when I click properties, I also took a screenshot of what is displayed when I click on the advanced tab under properties, and the support tab. also, I tried clicking the 'repair' button under support, and it attempts to change my ip adress, and it fails to do so.

Just untick the box that says notify me when this connection has no or limited connectivity then that will go away.

Its your connection to your cable modem by the looks of things. it could be your Lan connection or the wireless connection indicating this

you don't by any chance have your modem plugged in via ethernet AND USB?

if so you only need one or the other. the modem can most likely only hand out 1 ip address so it gives it to the ethernet side and you get this message on the USB side. if you unplug the ethernet and powercycle i bet local connection 2 would work. and vice versa if you unplug the USB.

this is all assuming you actually have both cables plugged in.

he must have something plugged into LAN number 2 for it to show up as limited or no connectivity. for example: you can have 5 ethernet cards in a computer and you won't get that message, as long as nothing is plugged into them.

my bet is still on the USB connection of the modem being plugged in.
