Take, for instance, the sorts of things you can do with a lasso. You gain this little tool during a mission that teaches you the ins and outs of breaking a wild horse, but you can aim the rope ring at people, too. I went to the saloon and found a prostitute, hog-tied her and then slung her over my shoulder to take for a ride. She didn't take too kindly to this treatment, screaming out obscenities like, "There are other ways to a girl's heart, you ass!" along the way. I responded by leaving her on a train track.

Game Informer gave it a 9.75

Game Informer

The game perfectly captures the expansiveness of frontier life and the gritty gunplay of spaghetti westerns, rightfully earning its place alongside the great Western films and the best Rockstar games. [Issue#206, p.86]
Shit is on!!!

NY Times review

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/17/arts/ ... DF6qkY2xnA
Along the way, he and his creators conjure such a convincing, cohesive and enthralling reimagination of the real world that it sets a new standard for sophistication and ambition in electronic gaming.
In the more than 1,100 articles I have written for this newspaper since 1996, I have never before called anything a tour de force. Yet there is no more succinct and appropriate way to describe Red Dead Redemption. Rockstar rides again.

I'm assuming everyone here is gonna play this for the PS3, so I'm gonna go out and buy one before the game drops tomorrow. I need a huge posse (nh).

The game runs better on the 360 anyway. The loading times are half that of the PS3 (when the game is installed on the 360), the framerate is better, and it's full 720p compared to 640p on the PS3. I would only get the PS3 version if that's where your friends will be playing it, or if that's the only console you have.

Just perused the metacritic review round up. Sooooo good.

100 1UP

This is simply a beautiful game, and it's provided more than a few moments where I completely forgot where the hell I was supposed to be going while riding over golden hills at sunset or through the desert in the middle of a nighttime lightning storm. It doesn't quite convey the loneliness of the real empty spaces, but does compress the essence of all the varieties of land and weather native to those parts into a few hundred miles ride.

Rad.
