free graphics programs?

Post by Sankofa »

My old computer had Microsoft Picture It Express, which was pretty simple to use and offered enough features to make it useful. New computer has nothing of the sort on it and I was wondering if you had any recommendations? Friends have mentioned photoGIMP, but the learning curve is beyond me.

Thanks in advance.

Is it just photo editing stuff you're after? If so, have a look at these: -

I'm looking to crop, adjust brightness/contrast, add font, shapes, etc.

irfanview can do all that but as you get into the adding fonts and shapes area i'm not so sure.

(never used it) but what about openoffice specifically the draw app?

I have openoffice's drawing program, but can't make heads or tails of it. Looks like it's time to move on.

nothing sad about this. Gimp is pretty decent.

The "sadly" was in reference to my previously mentioned inability to navigate getting stuff done with Gimp, not in regards to the program itself.
