Essential programs and dashboard items for mac

I recently got a mac, what is essential and or useful for the dashboard. Also what programs are good.

I'm completely new to Apple.....

the best thing to get for dashboard is the "stop dashboard" widget so while you aren't looking at it, it wont eat up ram

thats the one i use

i use a few widgets for weather and whats on tv, thats about it, ive kind of lost interest in widgets

i suggest just browsing the apple website and find what looks good
