Zombies & Pterodactyls 20XX (Xbox Live Indie Games, $1)

This is a great game for $1. It was created by Ska Studios, the same devs that created The Dishwasher games.

There's a single player mode, but it's just basically a practice mode with bots.

The multiplayer is kinda like a crazy 2D version of COD with jetpacks. There's 10 different maps, various customisable game modes, and it supports up to 10 players. You can choose from several character classes, each of which are customisable, there's kill streaks, and you level up and unlock new stuff, just like in COD.

It plays like a twin stick shooter. You have a jetpack and you can fly around with the left stick, but the jetpack has limited fuel so you have to land and let it recharge. You fire/attack with the right stick, so you can shoot/attack in any direction. You can carry up to 4 weapons at a time and switch between them with the D-pad, and you can carry up to 2 types of grenade at a time which are thrown with either RB or RT and the right stick. There's quite a lot of different weapons including machine guns, grenade launchers, pistols, swords, a powerful laser gun, a shrink ray, a freeze ray, and some crazy shit like an AK47 that fires kittens and another gun that fires a swarm of bees.

The matchmaking is really fast. It shows you a list of games in progress with the ping time to the host. When you select a game, you're dropped straight into it. If you set up a game, you can choose to have bots in the game (and choose the skill level of the bots) and as real players join they replace the bots. That's cool, cos you don't have to sit around waiting for a lobby to fill up, or for a countdown to end.

The only real negative with this game is that there's no host migration, so if the host of the game quits, the game ends. That's only happened to me twice though.

Here's the demo: -

Unfortunately, the demo doesn't allow you to play the online multiplayer so you can only play against bots, but this game is only $1 so you're not gonna lose a lot if you don't really like it.
