Re: Far Cry 3
yeah this looks dope but i need to finish borderlands/xcom before i get wrapped up in another open world rpg/shooter. also just copped hitman (39.99 at gamestop) so it might be a while before i get to this one.
Re: Far Cry 3
Well, I'm completely sold after watching AJ's review:
Re: Far Cry 3
its the most fun i've had this year after finishing borderlands 2
the story is good, the voice acting is phenomenal (vaas specifically)
i like how they use the animal hunting to upgrade your gear
there is tons of stuff to do.
island is massive
graphics are great
upgrade system is rewarding
freedom of play style works well
10/10
i'm playing on PC and haven't played either farcry 1 or 2.

Re: Far Cry 3
This game is awesome.
It might be game of the year, honestly, but that's not a hard title to claim in 2012.
One gripe I have is entangled with an aspect of the game I praise. The leveling system is represented through a tattoo, which is awesome, but half of the abilities don't really seem like abilities at all. They seem like moves or attributes one should already have or, at least, acquire through means other than the skill tree.

Re: Far Cry 3
i'm considering trading in my Assassin's Creed 3 towards this. I have no desire to finish AC3.
Re: Far Cry 3
Picked this up yesterday while shopping for presents. I'm keeping it for myself.

$30 at Best Buy right now, just picked it up - love this game so far. Should keep me busy until Tomb Raider drops in price and Bioshock Infinite drops.
Re: Far Cry 3
This game is rad. I thought I was done with FPS's, but I'm interested in them once again.

Re: Far Cry 3
Just getting into this game based on the recommendations here. Loving every second of it. Story is solid and just exploring the island doing sidequests is just as fun. Love the driving physics as well.
Re: Far Cry 3
THIS IS REAL.
The year is 2007. It is the future. Earth has been ravaged by a nuclear war and new paths for peace must be found. A U.S. cyborg army may have found a solution: a powerful bioweapon on a distant island. A Mark IV Cyber Commando, Sergeant Rex Power Colt has been sent over to gather information and figure out what the hell is going on.

Re: Far Cry 3
It also raises the question: why hasn't something like that ever been done before? There should be an entire subgenre dedicated to 80s action movie FPSs.

May 1.

Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon listed on XBLM for May 1, stars Michael Biehn
Not only is Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon very real and very, very neon, it also could be here in just over three weeks. The 80s-inspired Far Cry 3 spin-off emerged on the Xbox Live Marketplace this weekend, where its release date is listed as May 1. The listing confirms Blood Dragon as a standalone shooter which won't require a copy of Far Cry 3, likely only to be single-player given its online features are restricted to "leaderboards."
More important than that, or the confirmation of previously leaked screenshots (see the gallery below), is that Blood Dragon features the radness of Michael Biehn, he of Kyle Reese in Terminator and Corporal Hicks in Aliens fame. Beihn's starring role is just a part of the "80s VHS vision of the future" that is Blood Dragon, according to the XBLM listing.
It reads in full:
"Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon is THE Kick-Ass Cyber Shooter taking place on a bizarre open-world island crawling with evil. Welcome to an 80's VHS vision of the future. The year is 2007 and you are Sargent Rex Colt, a Mark IV Cyber Commando who's fighting against a cyborg army gone rogue. Your mission: get the girl, kill the baddies, and save the world. Experience every cliché of a VHS era vision of a nuclear future, where cyborgs, blood dragons, mutants, and Michael Biehn (Terminator, Aliens, Navy Seals) collide. Playing Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon doesn't require a copy of Far Cry 3."
Quite how Blood Dragon ties in to Far Cry 3 beyond the island remains to be seen.
We've reached out to Ubisoft for more info. While details are so far restricted to XBLA, Brazilian classification ratings point towards releases on PS3 and PC as well.
Re: Far Cry 3
this blood dragon thing confuses me.
i'm wondering if its basically just a mod that still uses the island structure, just with different skins, guns, structures and whatnot.
either way it looks pretty cool

Re: Far Cry 3
From what I understand, it's an entirely new game being developed by Ubisoft using the Far Cry 3 engine. Think of it as a massive piece of DLC that doesn't require the original game to play.
I guess it would make sense for them to simply reskin the original island, but if they did I honestly don't think anyone would notice, given what a drastic change this game looks like it's going to be.
