Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Post by None »

Every knew this was it and there were obvious facts that pointed to this, despite Konami and Kojima's attempt to misdirect. Today at his GDC panel for the FOX Engine, Kojima showed the new MGS 5: the Phantom Pain trailer at GDC. He came out in bandages to show the trailer. This and Ground Zeroes will make up MGS 5 and they will both be open-world.

I'm surprised this is on 360/PS3 and not next-gen platforms.

I edited your post to fix the embedded YouTube video BTW, which is why I deleted the other posts about the video not working.

Since it is a sequel or something with Ground Zeroes, it seems to be current gen. The quality is due to tue Fox Engine and during the GDC presentation with Kojima, a big part of the look is lighting. Hence why the trailer makes mention of a lighting person.

That was a weird ass trailer. It didn't really get me excited to be honest.

Simultaneous feelings of DO NOT WANT and DO WANT.
Hopefully this continues the series tradition of the odd numbered releases being genre-defining/historically great releases as opposed the odd numbered ones which were cool but ultimately forgettable.

There's no going back after the shitfest that was MGS4. This is going to be godawful.

I still have hope for Ground Zeroes though.

MGS5 is the Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes. Both are open-world.

I am in the middle of playing all of the old games. Started with the original last week. I am going to try and play all of them.

I see. So are they both two separate games to purchase or do they both come together as one game?

He wasn't asked back by Kojima. He said he would have done the role until the end of time and the thought of someone else doing Snake's voice makes him physically ill.

ric: Ground Zeroes + Phantom Pain = MGS5. Ground Zeroes, I believe, is meant to be played first. I know literally nothing about Phantom Pain other than that it will be rife with Kojima's inept and clumsy attempts at storytelling. I actually don't know much more about Ground Zeroes, but there was a video someone posted a while back showcasing some of the gameplay and it looked very impressive.

thats fucked up. Why wouldn't kojima want him to stay in the role? is their beef between them?
Makes no sense to not recast the same actor, who has been incredible in the role for two decades, unless he was trying to extort a huge sum of money or something.

Something about wanting a "fresh start" or some bullshit. Hayter was completely blindsided. Kojima is a hack.

True, but he's so far up his own ass now I can't see him making anything that good again. Hope I get proven wrong.

This no Hayter thing is really bothering me. Snake/Big Boss isn't snake without the voice. I'm actually considering not even getting the game.

Word, if anything it could end up being an improvement.

I'm immediately interested in the game again and willing to forgive my gripes with MGS4.
