Twitch.tv

Post by Mo Cheeks »

Ok I'm obviously late to the party (been watching for the last 2 weeks)

How many of you watch? who do you watch? anyone here stream?

I have a real solid idea and want to get started streaming but I don't want to invest that much money into it, kind of just want to do it for fun

I've watching since it was Justin.tv

Twitch spun off it a couple of years ago. I've never streamed but when I look at the personalities and general lack of articulacy of a lot of popular streamers, I think I could give it a successful go. Then I remember 80% of the twitch audience are younger people who don't really appreciate these qualities.

The popular streamers actually make a nice living. It took them a few years to actually ascend to that level but it's like anything else, usually one has to put a lot of work in.

The only recipe I've seen for somewhat instant success is being a cute chick who is a skillful gamer. The guys are just very skillful.

I personally don't care about specific streamers, just games although I do like Man vs. Game.

I set up an account and squandered all my starting money within half an hour. Don't think there's any way to get a healthy balance back without paying real money :/

Someone rigged a Gameboy emulator/Pokemon ROm up so it responds to commands typed in chat. Kind of hilarious seeing 26,000 people trying to play the same system.

I think the reason this has taken off is because Pokemon and turn based games in general are more suited for this, given that there's a 20-40 second delay on streams. It's pretty remarkable that people have gotten as far as they have. I've had it open in a tab for the past couple days, and the collective trials and tribulations of the chat is hilarious
