got htc phone. its my first smart phone. im lost as fuck

its like a computer

so what do i need in terms of apps? free apps? pay apps?
i think the phone i got is an htc one....but like i would fucking know that
it uses some sort of android os
so uh...i did notice that theres a green light thats always blinking. is that ok? does that drain battery power?
what kind of bs factory settings do i have to turn off? what kind of nonsense do i have to do to make this phone sweet?

I don't use the stock keyboard. There's an excellent keyboard called Swiftkey. I believe it's $2.99.
If you like photography mixed with social networking, get Instagram.
If you're too cheap to pay for a text messaging plan, get Kik or WhatsApp.
The blinking green light is your message indicator. You have a text, email, or alert from any social network that you may be signed into.

if you have hulu or netflix, make sure you set them to play on wireless only

^^I'm not sure I would agree with that. The HTC One is a well built phone with a premium feel.

A couple of tips for you, Ric: -

The LED that's blinking is the notification light. If you unlock the phone and then swipe your finger down from the top of the screen, you'll see a list of notifications. You can then tap on one to address it, or swipe it left or right to dismiss it. You can change the notification options in each app's settings and there's some global options in the main phone settings section.

Swiping left and right on a home screen switches you between screens. You can usually add/remove screens (how to do it varies from phone to phone, so I'm not sure about the HTC One). Long pressing on a blank area of a screen allows you to add a new shortcut or widget to that screen. Long pressing on a shortcut or widget allows you to move it around or remove it from the screen.

Expect to charge your phone overnight every day. Also, the alarm will not work if the phone is turned completely off.

i got the htc because it was super highly recommended by my bro and it actually seems like a functional phone because the shit seems pretty streamlined

i just updated it this morning and apparently the operating system is kitkat 4.2.somethingsomething

the keyboard really blows hard. so i will definitely check out the swype and swiftkey shits

so i dont know like...what are the best games? do all the games require internet access? what are the sweetest most handy apps?

i mean im not really connected to my shit. it may end up replacing my ipod at some point and when im at wireless spots i may use some internet and maybe some google maps shit but other than that im pretty much a lowkey user for this shit.

but if theres anything thats like super life changing i definitely want to know about it cause otherwise what the fuck is the point of getting the goddamn phone?

For apps, I have a shitload I use occasionally and three I use all the fucking time:

Doggcatcher
Feedly
Pocket (white on black ftw, just pull shit off longform.org, long reads.com, and thebrowser.com)

For browsing I also prefer dolphin because of the swipe left for bookmarks and swipe right for night mode (a dolphin extension you have to install, but great for reading in bed; they have a Pocket extension too).

If you have a kindle the kindle app is nice too. Might even prefer it to my kindle.

I have supergnes(snes) and ePSXe(ps). These are both in the app store with free versions. There are paid versions which are about $2-4. The games can be gotten for free, of course.

That's basically Scrabble. You can play multiple games with different friends at the same time and you'll receive a notification on your phone when it's your turn.
