Audio Receiver Recommendations

In the market for a new receiver. Currently have an Onkyo HT-R680 that just shit the bed again. Had nothing but problems with it, it's actually my 3rd one, after a while it stops transfering the video signal from my devices to my tv. First time it happened was a month after I bought it so it was under warranty and Amazon replaced it, now it did it again a year+ later so I'm on my own.

Want something with some power, lots of HDMI inputs, 7 channel surround, ipod compatibility, etc. The works.
Most of all I need something reliable so I don't have to deal with this shit again.
Looking to spend maybe $500, but could be convinced to go higher.

Anyone got any recommendations? Looking around on amazon is a bit overwhelming.

I like the Pioneer VSX models. I specifically bought the 820 because it had an iPod jack and displayed song titles on the front panel. Shortly after I got it I bought an Apple TV and now never use the iPod.
