Downloading songs off of YouTube (2014)

Hoping this is in the right forum (not sure, because of the merge poll)...

How is everyone downloading songs off of YouTube currently? Let me know all of the options out there...

I use Internet Download Manager, although it's not free. It's great for saving audio and video from sites where there's no download option.

If you want something free, you can use this script: -

That gives you a download button under every video on YouTube: -



There's also a number of extensions for browsers that do the same thing. The only problem with that script and browser extensions, is that they can no longer grab the 1080p version of a video with audio in one go - you have to download the audio and video separately and then merge them. With Internet Download Manager, it does that for you automatically.

As the video files are MP4, you can easily convert them to MP3 if you just want the audio. I use dBpoweramp for that.

who in their right mind would want to download songs off of Youtube in 2014? the quality is usually garbage, and anything that has made it to youtube has to exist somewhere in mp3 form (at worst). have you tried soulseek?

Well its very easy access to a huge amount of music, it's cool for just a quick download of a loosie random song

I haven't used soulseek in ages, it's good currently?

i just downloaded soulseek again last week after having not used it in maybe 5-6 years and it's awesome. I've been getting a ton of shit.

i use youtube-dl, it's a command line utility for linux

1) Go to any Youtube link
2) Change "https://" to "http://"
3) type pwn in front of the youtube in www.youtube.com

So https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOq_YsH9FHM becomes http://www.pwnyoutube.com/watch?v=cOq_YsH9FHM

It will take you to deturl.com where you can use other tools to download the video, download the audio, etc.

This is an old thread but I feel I should mention listentoyoutube.com - you just paste the link and it generates a dl for you. You don't need to install anything or play with the url.
